Tired of your plain white Dappi (or Bummis) nylon pull-ons? *added pics*

Dye them with kool-aid! I did this yesterday and they came out so cute! I remember reading or hearing that people have done this but thought kool-aid only worked on wool. So I did a little rersearch and it turns out nylon takes acid dyes (like kool-aid) just like wool and other protein fibers do!

I followed these directions: http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/208783-AA.shtml
I used two packets of kool-aid (only 25 cents each! get the little packets, not the kind that already has sugar in it) and my stockpot on the stovetop. I did use synthrapol to wash them in after (I already had it since I like dying my pfs with procion dyes as well), but I'm sure it would work just as well to wash them in a little detergent.

I have smalls, meds and larges and I was tired of having to look at the tiny letters on the tag to find the right size so I dyed them accordinf to size. The smalls I did orange, the larges are green (ds1 favorite color). My mediums were already blue. Much easier now to grab the right size!

Mine came out a bit mottled looking. I think if I had just dyed one or two (instead of four) at a time they would have come out even. But I'm too impatient and lazy!

Have fun!

Edit:
Okay, that was easier than I thought it would be! Here are the pics. The colors look better irl. There are also a couple pfs I dyed and a fitted I made.

It really works??? It doesn't wash out? I have TONS of Dappis and Bummis pull-ons. Once in a while I buy a cute wrap (like Bummis SWW) but I always end up using the pull-ons because they are so easy and reliable. I might have to think about changing the color.... (I also am working with different sizes and have to check the tags)

yeah I'd love to see pics, great idea! I love my bummis pull on covers but yeah they are so boring and plain, color would be nice! I wonder if it will bleed on to other dipes in the wash? Thanks for sharing this though, I'm curious now.
I'll try to figure out how to post pics. I think I'll have to join, is it photobucket or something? We have our own website, but the software for it is on a different computer, so I can't post them that way. Hmmmm....

I would be surprised if they bled. Synthrapol is awesome for washing out excess dye.
I remember hearing about this when I first started cd'ing. I could never find directions though. Thanks!
Oh, and show pictures

Photobucket is one place you can post photos online. Yahoo is another.

ooooo aahhhhh I like!!! I have some dappis in storage too!
those look great, the colors are really bright! Did you dye your prefolds with kool-aid as well?

Thanks for the nice comments! I kind of felt like I was dyeing easter eggs, with the colors and it being springtime and all.

No, I used procion dyes from a fabric shop for the pfs. AFAIK kool-aid won't work on cotton, it will wash out, although I've never tried it. I bet there are a lot of kool-aid stained cotton t-shirts out there though. LOL!
