I had my baby early this morning!!!
Tobias (Toby) was born this morning (4/5) at 3:08 am, 8 lbs 13 oz. Great, fast homebirth - born before our midwives arrived. More details to come, but I'm exhausted!
He came 2 weeks earlier & 1 lb lighter than dd - what a relief!!!
WE ARE SO IN LOVE!!!!
A quick birth story... @ 12:45am, my midwife came over & @ my request, checked me & I was 3cm. My contractions were 3-5 mins apart, but only lasting 30-45 secs. We agreed that she'd go home & we'd both try to get some sleep (hoping that my contrax would decrease in frequency & possibly increase in duration while lying down). I was able to relax deeply b/w cx & I was comfortable w/ her going home.
By 2:30am, I had dh up & things were really intense, but the cx still weren't lasting longer than a minute or so- it wasn't at all what I expected, very disorienting. I was giving him all sorts of orders about waking my mom, filling the tub, calling various people, etc! My membranes were still intact, so when I started spontaneously pushing @ the peak of cx, I wasn't sure if I just had a bulging sac or what. The quote for the night was (in a panicky voice) "dh, I'm pushing- why am I pushing????" LOL
All of this is going down in the master bathroom w/ my mom & dh present. dd slept through the whole thing. His head was born w/ me standing up, squatting, holding on to dh. Then I got on all fours to birth his body (that was very intentional on my part- the midwife in me knew that would be a good position for preventing shoulder dystocia & that dh would be able to clearly see what was going on & not drop him! LOL). Meanwhile, my mom's on the phone w/ the midwife who got pulled over by a cop!!!
Toby wasn't actually born in the caul, so my water must have broken just as his head was birthing. There were never any giant gushes- dunno were all the amniotic fluid went shrug He started breathing & crying pretty quick- since we were on our own, I rubbed him VIGOROUSLY Smiley & the midwives arrived shortly after.
No probs birthing placenta- it looked good, average size, health, etc. Had some trouble peeing the first time, but it FINALLY came (phew, that always feels like such a relief!). I have a 1st degree tear that my midwife could have gone either way on, but she's a really skilled suturer, so we decided to go ahead & put the stitches in.
Toby's nursing okay- he's pretty sleepy, so we may have some challenges there. But he's so much calmer than dd was! So we'll see what tomorrow brings.
All in all, we're just sooooo in love!!!! (both w/ the baby & w/ my awesome husband!) GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!!!
