After co-sleeping for a year, Paige moved to her crib with no problem...

A few weeks ago there was a sweet sale on this really adorable toddler bed that has a ramp so she can't go flying out, and right now it's just sitting in our spare room collecting dust. I'd really like to set it up alongside her crib so she can adjust to it, and someday sleep in it...

Have any of your toddlers moved to toddler beds?
She's 20 months, and I'm wondering if it's too soon?

I moved my ds to a twin on the floor at 12 months. If she can get in and out of the bed safely on her own I think it is fine to move her. Be aware that this also means she can wander the house on her own getting into things, if you are ready for that.

We converted DS's crib over to a toddler bed when he was around 26 months. We could've done it sooner, but I personally wasn't ready.
We just recently took the rails off the bed and it's now more like a daybed. He loves it.

My babies didn't sleep in cribs. I moved one to a toddler bed in our room at 2ish and the other to a twin at 2ish. The next baby will likely have a toddler bed, because that is all we can fit in their room. My older one stayed in the toddler bed about a year before he wanted a bigger bed. We got a twin when he was 3. Not a good investment, but it was gifted to us.

We moved dd fom our bed to a twin matress on the floor of her room at 14 months. We toddler-proofed the whole room, set up a monitor, and put a gate on the door. For a long time I still ended up co-cleeping part of the night--just in her bed! If you have a toddler bed, go ahead and set it up. It might not be able to be used for that long because they are so small, so you may as well use it now.

My personal impression is that toddler beds are a racket. Just another thing for them to sell you. My daughter went directly from a crib to a twin bed.

This is my experience. Perhaps some children have a very difficult time with the crib/bed transition and toddler beds are the perfect solution.

If it matters, we have mostly co-slept. Around 12 months we started putting the babe in the crib, then she'd join us in bed after her first waking. She's nearly 3 now and still usually joins us in bed sometime in the early morning.

We can't fit a crib and a single bed in DD's room and we need the space for baby#2. So they do have thier place in the world
DD is about 110% for height on the WHO charts (just simply waay over the top!) and has been sleeping in the toddler bed since 14 months with lots of room to grow still.

Actually, at 14 months we took the side off her crib and turned it into a "daybed" style bed like a PP mentioned, then got the toddler bed around 6 months and let her pick where she was going to sleep. Once she was consistently sleeping in the toddler bed we put the side back on her crib so she couldnt' get into it any more. (took about 2-3 weeks I think)

We put a step-stool at the foot of our bed and DD starts the night in her bed and comes and climbs in with us if she wakes in the night (we are right next door, that would be harder if she was in a different room as our other bedrooms are on another floor). It didn't take her long to figure that out and she isn't one to go "get into things" when she's not 100% supervised, that will vary by kid!

Like someone said, if your kid can get in and out of the bed safely and you know they aren't going to get into anything while you are sleeping, then go for it. I figured that since she was younger that we would have less issues with her getting out of bed because it simply wouldn't occur to her to "misbehave" and get out of bed when we were trying to put her to sleep. I was right, for my kid at least

We converted DS's crib into a daybed/toddler bed set up around 18 months because he was climbing out of his crib. At first we kept a little step stool beside the bed that he learned to use very quickly to help with getting in the bed. About a month and half ago we moved him into a bunk bed and he absolutely loves it.

I would never go out and buy a toddler bed though. I would just transition them from their crib/your bed to a mattress on the floor or another bed.

We did make sure that there is nothing in his room that he can get to that will hurt him and made sure the room was toddler proofed (outlets covered, dresser secured to wall, etc). He does get out of his bed and read his books after we turn out the lights, but I see no harm in that. For the first few months, we also had a baby gate at the doorway so that he couldn't out of the room and into other rooms/the bathroom. Now we just have the gate in the bathroom doorway.
