<i>We just bought my son (almost 22 mos) a toddler bed. We are expecting a new baby in February and buying another crib just seemed silly to me. I knew he wouldn't do very well on a larger mattress (we have a twin he could use) because he usually sleeps pressed up against the rails of his crib). And, I am a nervous nelly about him being close to the floor because he broke his arm about 6 mos ago.<br><br>
Anyhow, he seemed excited about it, he kept saying "NEW NEW BED!" and was thrilled with the concept of being able to get on and off himself. However, we put him to sleep on it last night and he woke up after an hour, screaming and clearly disoriented as to where he was. I'm sure it will take some time to adjust, I just don't want to push him to sleep on it too early if he isn't ready. I'm prepared to use the pack and play as a crib for the new baby if she outgrows the bassinet and my son isn't ready to be in his big boy bed yet.</i><br><br>
If you have experience with moving your toddler out of their crib, when did you introduce the new bed and how did it go? Was there a lengthly adjustment period? Thanks for your input , ladies!

DS never slept in an enclosed crib but when we introduced him to his own bed we did naps first for a week or two. I would do naps and extra play/reading time in his room so he can get used to the idea of the new bed.

We went right to a twin bed (on the floor, no frame) so that one of us could lie down with or sleep with him. Or if he came into our room in the middle of the night and kicked too bad, one of us could go into his bed. He was 2, I was 4 months pregnant. It went very well, slept in it immediately and ever since. He was home when the mattress was delivered in a big truck, he talked about that for months <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

What I did, after I basically tried what you did and it got rejected big time <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> was just left the bed set up and put her to bed as normal like I had before we even had the toddler bed and eventually she really wanted to be in the toddler bed. It did take a couple of months and from your siggy you may not have that time, but that's how I worked it so that it was her choice and not mine.

my son loved the transition he was about 29 months when we swithced him fro crib to bed but he has a convertable crib so it was not a HUGE change. he did get up a lot and still does some nights but he eather comes to our bed or i ut him back in his and its ok eather way, good luck!
