LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - A 3-year-old boy died after being left in a day-care van for hours while the temperature was in the 90s, and the driver was charged with manslaughter, police said Tuesday.

Marcellus Johnson, was to have been dropped off at his home in Little Rock around 3 p.m. Monday, but van driver Rancocas Foreman skipped the boy's stop, went home and parked and locked the van before leaving for his second job......

I'm really really curious as to what the driver's defense is. Did he just forget? Was the child asleep? I'm a little curious abt why the cops werent called sooner, but I'm hoping it was a case of "what, I thought you had him" "no, I thought you took him to your appt..." etc etc. Poor poor poor baby.

Hastings said he had no explanation for why there was about a five-hour gap between the time the boy was to have been dropped off and police being called.
I was wondering about that myself...I can't imagine waiting 5 hours after I thought I'd see my dd before calling the police!

I don't see how they can forget a child in a van! I read another thing like this last year; a child was left in a daycare van because he was asleep and the workers just forgot about him.

When I was three, I took a school bus my myself to get to preschool. The driver was supposed to call each child's name, and then that child would get off the bus. One day there was a new driver. He didn't call the kids' names; he just stopped and then they got off the bus. Well, I was not used to the new rule, so I just sat in the back of the bus since he didn't call my name. He didn't see me there, so he drove the bus all the way back to the bus garage and then realized I was still there.

But, when I didn't show up at school, they called my mom right away and by that time the bus driver had called the school, so everything was fine. I suppose it could have been much worse!

Bolding done by me

"Marcellus Johnson, was to have been dropped off at his home in Little Rock around 3 p.m. Monday, but van driver Rancocas Foreman skipped the boy's stop, went home and parked and locked the van before leaving for his second job, authorities said.

Marcellus' parents called police after 8 p.m., and around the same time Foreman remembered the boy, went home to check the van and found Marcellus' body, police spokesman Sgt. Terry Hastings said."

Now the driver is at fault, of course, for not dropping the boy off and not checking the van( I mean come on how hard is that?) before he parked and locked it.( they do say the boy was visible from the driver's seat - but I would have to point out that he was visible when they found him dead not necissarily when he was left in the van )

BUT WTF is wrong with his parents?!?!?!?!

they waited 5 HOURS!!! where did they think their kid ( THEIR 3 YEAR OLD) was? how could they be OK with the idea that someone somewhere had their kid and they didn't know who or where or what they might be doing to him? ....
