So this weekend my daughter has started screaming and crying when she has to pee and telling me that it hurts and not drinking very much and peeing every 10 minutes or so and having accidents(I put her back in diapers because of it and she's been potty learned for over 6 months now). There's no blood, it doesn't smell funny, nothing. She seems happy as a clam until she has to pee. I thought in the beginning it was just stress as we just moved into a new apartment but now I'm near convinced it's a UTI. I've never had one before. How do you deal? I've heard cranberry juice and I'm trying it but it's not helping too much yet as I only started yesterday. I really don't want to put her on antibiotics if I don't have to. Any thoughts?
My dd had a UTI about a year ago while still in dipes.
I go to a naturopath, and even HE suggested getting her to a ped. and getting antibiotics. I wouldnt mess around with cranberry juice on someone so young.

I agree with rainsmom. Ds has a UTI right now and was passing blood in his urine. I really don't mess around with UTIs and feel it is something that they need antibiotics for.

I also agree. Antibiotics, when they are needed, are a powerful tool! I just wanted to add that feeding her lots of yogurt (probiotic enriched, acidophilus, bifidus etc) can help combat yeasty side affects!

Hope your babe is better soon!

You can get the OTC test strips to check for UTI's at just about any store. If you go the antibio route do probiotics during and after treatment. Some sodium ascorbate would not hurt either.Blueberries can also be helpful in keeping the UT clear.
You really can't give her too much, and if your budget is tight, learn to culture it as a yogurt. It'll last virtually forever.

There is no reason for anyone, let alone a child, to have a UTI unless their natural flora are out of whack or completely gone.

Remember the meats we eat, no matter how much you cook them, contain powerful antibiotics-- to keep the abused animals alive--- that destroy our intestinal flora. This destruction is a downward slope into a whole world of illness, even miscarriages.

This is how my wife and I discovered the awful truth.

Now we have a beautiful baby boy, organically fed, who has had a powerful flora since the day he was born.
