I don't, but I sometimes wonder if I should. My daughter's pediatrician seems anti most kid vitamins because he says they have artificial ingredients in them, and he seems to think as long as your kid is getting enough iron, you don't need them. I don't know. How would I know if my daughter really needed a supplement? If she eats a decent diet, is she getting what she needs nutritionally?

DD (22m) started on Rainbow Light's Kids' One Multi-Stars recently. She has been going through another zero-vegetables phase, and she's not nursing nearly as much as she was the last time she went through this phase (13-18 months), so we got her the vitamins as an insurance policy.

Yeah, I guess I figure if my daughter went through a protracted zero-veggies (or fruit) phase, I'd do vitamins. But so far, her produce strikes have been only very sporadic and short. I think we tried the Rainbow Stars once at our local co-op (a sample of, I mean), and my daughter turned up her nose at it. I keep seeing gummy bear vitamins at our co-op, which she might go for, but I kind of don't want her medicine to be so yummy or appealing, you know? I mean, appealing enough for her to actually get down, but not so appealing that she'd be asking for it constantly.

We also use the Rainbow Light multi-stars. No artificial ingredients, and dd likes them! We chose to give the vitamin supplements because of concerns over lead poisoning - we live in an older house (1898) with some lead paint (on upstairs windows and on some woodwork) which we are working with the state to have remediated (though this is totally another topic, I encourage everyone in older homes to do lead testing. 75% over houses built before 1970 have lead paint in them and even if most of the paint is not lead-based you can still have hazardous levels of contamination). Making sure she is not deficient in calcium and iron reduces her chances of absorbing lead even if she is exposed to it.

We do vitamins because DD is your typical spotty eater -- one day she eats great, then next she doesn't want anything except milk & grapes.
Knowing she get the vits helps me not stress as much about her diet from day to day.

I get Children's Chewable Vitamins with Minerals from Schiff. You can get them through Frontier for a very reasonable price. They are guaranteed to have no sugar, salt, yeast, wheat, gluten, milk, preservatives or artifical flavors. DD likes taking them & tells me every day what animal she got this time.

She also gets one Hyland's Vitamin C tablet a day. Once she turns two in a few weeks I will increase her to two per the label.

HTH!

We use these because ds used to be a really iffy eater, now he eats pretty well, but is accustomed to getting one everyday. They taste really yummy, I don't blame him.
