Hello All:

My 2 year old son is suddenly becoming very interested in sitting on the toilet for some of his "business."

His little bum looks a bit precarious on that large seat, so I'm thinking about getting one of those toilet seat reducers (I guess that is what they are called.). A quick look at Amazon tells me folks seem pretty opinionated about these things...some slip, others are not great for boys, etc.

Just thought I'd put this out there: Anyone have good experience with these for a boy? Do they even help or would I just be falling prey to some pretty good marketing? I'd rather stay away from superhero toilet seats or anything too busy (no singing toilet seats) if that is possible. He never even used his little potty seat, and since these seem a bit more expensive, I hate to even get one if it seems many babes are getting by using the loo just fine without one...

We used the BabyBjörn Toilet Trainer seat and it worked great. It fits on tightly so it doesn't wiggle around, but it just lifts right off.

My DD sits on the toilet seat (no reducer) with her feet resting on her step stool. It gives her a good amount of stability.

Yep us too. ds has been using the Baby Bjorn potty chair and toilet seat for the last month and both work great!

We had a Baby Bjorn little potty and but when my DS wanted to use the big potty, I couldn't cough up the dough for the BB potty seat. So I bought a potty seat for about $10 at WalMart - it's squishy and white and has ducks on it. DS does pee on on the ring which can get a little messy. I don't think it would be different with any other seat.

We use the Potette 2-in-1 when out and around. DS didn't like to hold on to the seat for more than a minute or two and sometimes he takes ten minutes to poop! I wouldn't use this as my only potty seat, but it's compact and works well as a portable potty.

We have a Baby Bjorn seat insert that we have used for ages now with no problems (even my 4 year old will use it if he is going to be there for a while hehe). That combined with a stepstool has been our training setup for both kids, we never bothered with a seperate kid's potty.

I can't remember which one it was but for ds#1 we had a seat that you attaced to the seat alread on the toilet and you could just flip it up when not in use. Also my boys liked to sit facing the back of the toilet... kinda like stradeling it so the wouldn't fall in.

We had the Baby Bjorn ring also. When he was first learning though, we had the larger sized baby bjorn free standing potty seat. When he a bit of time under his belt (and I was done with rinsing the bucket of poop!), he moved to the toilet with the BB toilet ring. It sits nice and secure, has a rubber loop to hang it if you want to and was easy to clean.

The other important thing is to have a stool that is the right height to comfortably get up there and to rest their feet on. Many stools are too short.

We use one that is from Target for about $8. It has Dora on it, so I'm not sure if that would rule it out for you. But as a general rule, I would get a very plain toilet ring that does NOT have one of those shields in front, because the boy's parts can get caught on that and just make it tricky to "mount" the seat! Both my boys preferred a seat on the seat rather than a seperate potty chair.

we used the bb one for my son, but at 31mo he decided he was "too big" for it. (As in grown-up, rather than too big physically - he's only just gotten to 30lb). We did get our moneys worth from it though as we bought is when he was 9 months (did ec).
