I am making curry with tofu but its my first time cooking with it and so I am treating it like I used to treat chicken but I just realized something.

I am sauteing it but what is the goal? is it pre-cooked? When is it "done?"

Did you press it first in a (paper/cloth) towel to get out most of the water? Was it frozen or...?

Generally I sautee my tofu until it is slightly brown on all sides, then I add it to whatever I'm making and let it cook a good long time to soak up the flavor/sauce.

LOL - I like your name

Ok so Its extra firm organic tofu - was in the fridge section. I squeezed it over the sink but not much came out so I sliced it up and sauteed it.

It turned a nice brown color but it would have been too much work to get ALL the sides brown - I would have had to turn each little cube over to each side.

Heres hoping my dh likes it. He is a really hard act to please.

I am veg curious.

Dh ate it....picked out all the tofu. Wont eat anything labeled a "health food." Piss me off. LOL.

Ds therefore didnt like it. No one else would eat it either except the baby 15 mo who thought it was awesome!

I love tofu Jenny! There are so many amazing ways to cook it and I think you're kind of onto something - I use it much like I would use chicken. I like it pressed for quite awhile. Makes it a little denser.

Maybe your DH would like baked tofu? It's usually in the cold section of better stocked grocery stores and TJ definitely has it.
I think that tofu can be an acquired taste for some people. It took me a few tries to really like it, and now I love it. Same deal with my stepdaughter.

Try serving it to your child when your DH isn't around. It is hard to convince kids to give a new food a chance when one of the adults won't.
drain it first. i wrap it in a dish towel and put it on a plate, then add another plate and a weight. you should press it for about 1/2 an hour to get the liquid out.

baking tofu is a really easy option. you can do this b4 you add it to something else. after you press it cut it into slices or cubes, marinate in whatever you like for a few hours then put on a slightly greased baking tray and bake at 400f for 20 minutes.

hth!

My DS loves Tofu any way. He's 2.5 yrs old but has loved it since he was around 12 months old. I do tofu many different ways. In the Veganomican cookbook you slice it and dip it into a mixture of 1 tbls soy sauce and 2 tbls sesame oil. Mix it first than dip it in. Put slices in the oven on foil and bake for 15-20 min on one side then flip and let it bake another 15 minutes. Then top w you fav sauce (mango BBQ is what they have a recipe for) and bake another 10 min. I think its on 400 degrees. The timing may not be exact-I'll check and update.
This is one I found on recipezaar I really like-very easy:

Try him on the pre-flavored kinds. They're pricey, but typically taste really, really good, especially for people who want something kind of familiar. I could go through a block of smoke-flavored tofu in about a minute if I'd let myself.
