Exclusive: Tom DeLay Says He Will Give Up His Seat
The embattled former Republican leader tells TIME that he will leave Congress and not seek reelection

Rep. Tom DeLay, whose iron hold on the House Republicans melted as a lobbying corruption scandal engulfed the Capitol, told TIME that he will not seek reelection and will leave Congress within months.

Still, I somehow think the rot has set very deeply and is it going to prove hard to remove all of it very soon.

Just saw this. Another guy taking the fall for the oh-so-corrupt Republicans.

Quote:
"I refuse to allow liberal Democrats an opportunity to steal this seat with a negative personal campaign," DeLay said
Because it's all the immoral Democrats' fault of course.
From the cnn article:

Quote:
Democrats retaking Congress, he said, would be disastrous, replete with tax hikes,
for the super wealthy

Quote:
a cut-and-run stance in the war on terror
because Democrats hate our country and are cowards

Quote:
and antics such as a presidential impeachment gambit.
antics? : A ludicrous or extravagant act or gesture; a caper.

All righty then.

Quote:
"After many weeks of personal, prayerful thinking and analysis, I have come to the conclusion that it is time to close this public service chapter of my life.

"It's time to begin opening new chapters and pursuing new opportunities to engage in the important cultural and political battles of our day from outside the arena of the United States House of Representatives.

"I have no regrets today and no doubt. I am proud of the past and I am at peace with the present and I'm excited about the future, which holds as always America's brightest days and mine, too. Thank you and may God bless you all. He has certainly blessed me."
As Air America says, every word is a lie. Read it all backwards:

"I am full of regrets today and doubt. I am ashamed of the past and I am not at peace with the present and I'm dreading the future, which holds as always America's darkest days and mine, too. Thank you and may God curse you all. He has certainly cursed me."

Of course.

It is just appalling the way some refuse to take any sort of personal responsibility. How can you even blame Democrats for your own behavior??

Arrogance took you everywhere but can't cover the ugly truth of how you played the game.

The "antics" part has me fuming. How dare they? If we're going to compare impeachment antics, lemme see: blow jobs on the one hand and willful constitutional violations, illegal wiretapping, illegal war, and pervasive and blatant lying to one's country on the other. Hmm.
I also found the "liberal Democrats" comment ludicrous and hilarious. Hah! Oh yeah, those terrible liberal Democrats, they might use the fact that I lied, cheated and stole against me personally!
I say good riddance to him. I love the comment on him taking a smiling picture so that Democrats can't use it to slander the Republicans.....seems to me he was the one who slandered them with his behavior.....and of course, he gave the Democrats the ammunition didn't he?
I hope he gets the fruit basket that I sent. I signed all of your names.

On the bright side, at least he didn't blame the Clenis.

Let's coordinate for Rove's departure.

While this is indeed great news, I don't know how well this will bode for the Dem candidate who is (was) running against Delay for his seat. He was actually hoping Delay would stay in the race, as Delay wasn't likely to win. Now this Dem will have to face off against another Rep who could very likely win in redistricted Conservative Texas.

Wasn't the Dem who lost his seat in redistricting running again?

I am not sure which district that was...

Yes, and he was counting on Delay running which would have knocked out any other Reps from running. Now, this guy could potentially face off against a viable opponent.

His name is Nick Lampson from the 22nd District in Texas.
