In college I worked at a Christian bookstore/school & office supply place (much like Mardel, but not) where I was in charge of selling Christian Homeschool Curriculum (which I won't be using.) and teaching supplies. A lot of homeschoolers came in for "topical units," little books found in the teacher's section that are age appropriate and have different activities based on a particular subject- anything from Recycling to Pirates. Some were a little more structured than others. They had coloring pages, game ideas, recipes, etc... that cover a range of concepts using the chosen topic.
Has anyone tried using these for homeschooling or unschooling? My dd is starting HS/US (I don't know what method I'm doing yet) Kindergarten soon. I think my dd might respond to those. She LOVES to color and do anything creative, and is interested in something different every month, it seems. I am not creative enough to come up with this stuff on my own.
I'm just looking for opinions on topical units. Has anyone tried these?
