I have sold a lot of stuff here. I have always had a good experience and find that people follow the rules. I also usually recognize the names of people I am doing "business" with. Well, today something strange happened. 2 different "members" with 0 number of posts contacted me about buying something and asked me to e-mail them instead of PM them. Each were in 10 minutes of the other. Am I paranoid? For some reason it is making me uncomfortable. Obviously, it's a violation of the rules because the "members" have less than 50 posts, but has this happened to anyone else?

I realize that technically members with fewer than fifty posts can't participate in the trading post...and I would definitely follow your instincts...however, if someone who's a new member contacts me and then can paypal me the $$ for something I want to sell, I don't see the risk in it for me...after all, I have their money!!

Just my initial thought on this!

I think you should trust your instincts, if it seems weird then maybe it is. I think many of us prefer to sell to people we feel we know. Otherwise we could just sell on ebay.

However, I have to say that the 50 post rule isn't as obvious as it could be. OK so sure, there is a sticky saying "Rules" but lots of people just don't notice those sorts of things. I think the 50 post rule ought to be in big bold text on front of the page.

Isn't the rule that you must have 50 posts to POST to the board (like list stuff for sale, etc)? It doesn't say you can't PM people inquring about what they have for sale. My understanding is that it's to keep people from just using this forum as a free way to list stuff they have for sale when they're not members here.

For example, I personally have a friend who is expecting twins and is going to use CDs, but has never done so before. She occasionally lurks on this forum, but hasn't participated because she's never CD'd before and isn't due for a while. I have forwarded her a few links with items for sale she might be interested in, and I know she's purchased a number of things from moms here.

If someone wants to send you money for your stuff, why isn't that OK? I don't get it.

I've never had someone with zero posts contact me.
I agree that if it feels "strange" to you, then go with your instincts.
OTOH...
If someone wants to send me their money for one of my sale items, I will gladly accept it.

Regarding the "if someone wants to send the money, then take it" POV. If it's paypal, sure! But I wouldn't give out my home address to someone I didn't know/with zero feedback. I may be paranoid about kidnappers, but I like to be careful with information like that.
