I went to my first prenatal visit on Thursday, and yesterday the nurse called and told me that my urine sample showed traces of blood and said I needed to go in and give them a morning urine sample. Has anyone else had this happen? I did go in this morning but the nurse hasn't called me back with any results yet. I read that the most common cause of this during pregnancy is a UTI, but I have never had one before and don't seem to have the symptoms. I don't have to go all the time, don't have pain when I go, haven't actually seen any blood in my pee, etc. I have, however, had some pain in my right side and back. Has anyone else had a test that showed blood in the urine, and what was the cause?
I'm dealing with the same thing. My last 3 midwife visits, when I peed on the stick, showed traces of blood in my urine. Twice they sent a sample out for more detailed analysis, and twice it came back negative. So, at their suggestion, I've been drinking unsweetened cranberry juice and taking cornsilk and uva ursi herbal tinctures (all good for the bladder) as a precaution. I have no symptoms of a UTI or bladder infection.

The other thing they asked is that I abstain from sex for a week prior to my next visit, so there is no possibility that the blood is coming from slight abraision.

No one knows why I am showing signs of blood, and it is a bit bothersome to me. But since I have no symptoms I am trying to shrug it off. The only other thing I could do is take a precautionary antibiotic, but I would really rather not do that -- especially in the winter time when I don't want to be killing off my "good" flora.

I hope your test comes back negative!

I had THE exact same thing last Dr's visit (middle back and right side of ribcage too). I'm on some antibiotic now which I hope to finish soon since this baby will be showing up in a couple of weeks.

The Dr didn't think the two things (pain and blood in urine), but I've got a strong feeling about this one...

you might have a kidney infection. they can make you feel achy (especially in your back) and have blood in your urine without the other standard UTI symptoms. i had one shortly after having dd, and it was easily cleared up with some abx.
