Hi Ladies,
I'm 36 weeks and 4 days pregnant with my 3rd child. My previous 2 pregnancies were complicated by pre-e at 40 weeks and 32 weeks. However, this pregnancy has been great. My BP is perfect and I'm having no other signs of pre-e. Sadly though my brother is dying. Hospice says he has a week or two left. I haven't asked my OB yet what he thinks but I was wondering what you ladies thought or have experienced with travelling at full term. Obviously, I want to be with my family and go to the funeral which is about 3 hours from the hospital where I will give birth. WWYD?

Honestly, unless that 3 hours is through snowy mountain passes (in which you could get caught and then go into labor,) I'd inform your doctor that you're going. Ask him/her for the name of a doctor there to be your backup, and ask him to send a copy of your records to said backup doctor. Tell your doctor you'll head home at the first sign of early labor, but that you have to go, and so you guys need to make it work. It's not like you're flying. It would suck to have a baby 3 hrs from home, but you're right, you need to be with your family.

Make sure you pack everything. Pack as if you are preparing to give birth 3 hours from home and then pack extra. It takes up a lot of space in the car, but it's worth it.

DP and I were scheduled to look at some apartments the day before I was due. (It happened to be his day off) So we drove the 2 hours even though I woke up in labour that morning. (To be honest, I wasn't going to give up my day when I knew the baby wouldn't come right away.) We ended up driving a little out of our way to see my dad and then to see a close friend. Somehow, I was able to hide my contractions from my father, but I never bothered to hide them from my friend. We planned to UC and seriously wanted to get a hotel room so I could get a nice jacuzzi tub, just for the depth and comfort of size. We made sure we packed absolutely everything in case we decided to stay in that area instead of driving home. Well it turned out that my friend was late getting home from work and we waiting around for her and then ordered pizza and had dinner. By that point, there was no way I was driving back home. So we ended up staying there. Sure we brought extra things, but I'm glad we had it all.

Good advice. Thanks! My OB is really cool so I don't imagine he'll give me a hard time about it as long as I stay healthy.

I just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear this! This must be so difficult for you to be dealing with right now (or at any time). You're in my prayers, too.
