Ahhh, Pinky beat me to it!
(hey B!)
I was going to recommend Ellen or Mary Rose at UNC.
My dd was hospitalized at UNC after her birth and was too weak to nurse due to her illness. I had been pumping and finger feeding her. 2 IBCLCs in the hospital tried to help us over the course of several visits (while we were inpatient), but w/no luck. One wanted me to use a nipple shield (that *didn't* address the problem and dd still wouldn't/couldn't latch!) and one spent her last visit w/us trying to convince me to put her on a bottle. Sigh. I refused, as I felt strongly that we were closer than that- we just needed the right help.
Well, a stroke of luck sent Mary Rose Tully to our room next, and w/in 20 min, dd had nursed on both breasts for the first time in a week.
:
I was so ecstatic, of course. I felt like Mary Rose was direct and confident, and very intuitive to what was going on w/dd and how to resolve it. And resolve it she did! DD will be 3 in June and is nursing strong!
Ellen is also very experienced and knowledgeable and just really nice.
Where will the surgery be? If it's at UNC, it will be easy to see either of these 2 women. If not, you can call lactation services at UNC (Mary Rose heads it up) or Family Practice (where Ellen works from) to see about scheduling an appt.
Best of luck to you and your little one!
