I have retitled this post and will start a new one about Wednesday so we can pick which park and not have it mixed up with the conversations about summer ideas, which I am loving! Bring on the summer fun!

Original post: So, I'm feeling ambitious. Which sounds better? Our normal Wednesday playdate at my house or a family gathering on that Saturday? I can do either.

Can we do both??? (not both at your house obviously!) DH will be OOT next weekend though so it would just be me and the boys.

Next week is the last week of preschool, so we are going to need to ramp up our activity or mama will lose her mind. I don't think we need daily playgroup necessarily, but I am going to need activities and will welcome all input and encourage anyone who would like to join us in those activities to please do so.

Either is fine with me. Or both. Wednesday is my birthday, so I definitely want to get out of the house. But Saturday family time sounds fun, too!

Certainly we can do both. Just Wednesday will need to be at a park or somewhere else.

So, Saturday 10ish - 1ish at my house?

Aw man. I had late afternoon in my head for some reason. N has soccer in the morning, so we would not be able to make it. But don't let us spoil the plan! We'll do it another time.

Rhi! Maybe someone will have to make a birthday treat for you! Got any requests??

I can do that, but I thought naps would be a problem. Mine don't nap, so no worries there. Suggestions?

We'll be there on Wednesday, but at that time Saturday I'll be at work. We could do afterward-T will just nap either in the car each way or on my back if she's really needs to-if that ends up working out.

I'm w/ B&G about needing more activities/ideas. I would enjoy some later afternoon things too, although I understand that we are working with a later time clock than everyone else. But that 4-6pm timeframe is murder on me! I do NOT want to play "Star Wars the Clone Wars" ONE. MORE. TIME. And it's only May. With planning, we could actually do whole-day things, with T again just catching sleep as she can.

Happy Pre B-day Rhi!

You know, I have vague, hopeful dreams of someday being able to let the kids run around outside, getting dirty and burning off energy, while the mamas sit in the shade and relax, conversing with cool beverage (of choice ) in hand. And there are no fights, no injuries, no whining, no corneal abrasions, etc etc etc. Hey, a girl can dream, right??

Well N rarely naps. Once in a while I can talk him into it, but most of the time he does not. K is so unpredictable. He has been taking 3 hour naps all week which totally blows my chances of getting out of the house to do anything because by the time he wakes up it is almost time for me to start attempting dinner. With the 2 of them lately it takes me a couple of hours to do it since I'm constantly breaking up arguments, nursing K to distract and calm him down, and all of that jazz.

I think some all day things would be fun, as long as there are opportunities for K to nap on my back. That is fine with us as an occasional thing. I started a list of summer activities but right now it has 4 whole things on it.

DH just doesn't understand why lately I keep insisting that dinners be super-duper easy! What is up with the fighting???? It drives me crazy because no sooner do I get Tessa calm and starting to play then Caden does SOMETHING to upset her (not saying she's always blameless!) and the screaming starts again. And jeez is she sensitive- the slightest touch, sit down on her butt, drop of water fall on her, and she's upset. AND she's clumsy, so she still falls a lot. She's been napping about 2 hours a day, give or take. With Caden, we're more likely to NOT let him take a nap, as it will mean he's not in bed until 11pm or later.

What's on your summer list? Is Tucker Lake on there? Hmm....I'll try to hit up some other boards to gather ideas from them too....

At some point (maybe once she stops screaming long enough for me to clean things) we should plan a life and science trip followed by lunch or dinner at my house. preferably a day when it's not 8000 degrees outside, so we can just walk to the museum and back.

I don't have Tucker Lake on the list, but will add it. Also adding "Swimming at B&G and Sharon's pool".

I wonder when the art museum is going to be finished. The thing holding us back from doing the outside trails is lack of bathrooms, right?

ETA: Isn't there an observatory somewhere in the Triangle? I feel like I've heard of one, but can't remember where it is. With all of the Star Wars talk lately that might be a fun place to visit.

I'd really love to work in some educational opportunities around summer activities. In my dream world we could all get together and plan out themes for each week or every other week. Kind of an intro to un or homeschooling. Does that interest anyone?? I just see what a little sponge N is right now, and I'd love to provide him with some chances to explore and learn new things outside of a school setting.

Carhootel would be the one to be able to answer about observatories. Her mom works at the planetarium. I know they do star watches at Jordan Lake sometimes.

And the museum of art in Raleigh is open again!

I won't be able to do next Saturday, I'm working. But I would love to do another family gathering sometime. We are up for wherever on Wednesday, though!

Oh! And I may be joining a pool near my neighborhood! If I do, I will host a couple of pool playdates, I think they allow guests. Of course, I still plan to host a kiddie pool playdate at my house when it's hot enough. Wednesday's high is 84, but the overnight low is 64 so it will probably be only around 70 or so at 9:30. Do you all think that's hot enough, or not yet?

BTW I am reading about all these 2 hour or more naps and getting SO jealous! I am happy if N naps an hour... today it was 35 minutes!

We would totally be interested in this.
Maybe like doing our own little storytime? We could have a book or two each week and do a craft and/or experiment to go along with it? I'm sure we could easily come up with 10 ideas and then go with that.

How about a fire station tour? The Cary fire department will do station tours for playgroups. I'd be happy to call them and organize one some morning this summer for us. Then there's always museums and things. And the library summer reading programs - my library is having a big kickoff with games and crafts on Saturday, June 5. Bass Lake Park in Holly Springs does educational nature walks for kids; I think Crowder might do something similar. We could also take turns hosting craft activities at our houses. There's a ton of options for extra summer activities!

I love the fire station tour idea. And if the drive is not to far for everyone we could definitely host one. I can also turn on the sprinklers out back and we have an enclosed trampoline and a slide and of course crafts.

Also love MJ's idea of storytime/craft experiments.
