Okay, so reading the dutty wine thread got me checking for tour dates in our area (South Texas). Yeah, right. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>
Anyone know of troupes that perform in Austin/San Antonio areas that are non-ballet, more in the Urban Bush Women vein? DH and I both would love to watch a dance troupe that performs dances that originated from tribal dancing.<br><br>
And, we are full up on flamenco and other Latino-style dancing, so we have lots of places to go for that, but I'm specifically wanting to watch a more African-inspired dance troupe.

Are you interested at all in tribal style bellydance? There's a group of bellydancers in the finding your tribe area. Some of us are into classical Egyptian, some into tribal styles, and there is a lot of crossover into African dance in the Middle Eastern dance community. Anyway, if you ask there, you might get a lot of good responses. (I live in West Texas, but I'm new to the area, and don't know too much about the nearby cities yet).

Check the local universities for "world music" performances. I know where I was teaching we had about 5 concerts a year that were "world music" performances, sometimes more if the budget was there. Trying to represent the world of music 5 concerts at a time is a challenge, though, and I'm guessing an African dance troupe would be expensive to host based on the number of individuals involved. It's worth a shot, though!
