It's a golden orb spider and from the article, it sounds like the average size is the size of an adult hand. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/bigeyes.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="bigeyes">: It also stated that they can get bigger in warmer, more tropical places.

I've always thought the Amazonian bird eating spiders were pretty cool. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/redface.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Embarrassment">

Count me as another who thinks that giant spiders are pretty cool <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin"> And, those aren't THAT huge, I mean, no bigger (or at least, not by much) than your average bird-eating tarantula <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin">

<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/biglaugh.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="laugh">: 3rd cousin once removed? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/winky.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink"><br><br>
We have golden orb weavers all over teh place (I'm in Brisbane so FAR south east of taht beast!) but I haven't seen one quite that big. They're actually very docile spiders and I only bother them if they decided to throw a web up in a place where people are likely to walk into it <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/winky.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink">
