I've been debating cutting up my beloved prefolds for a few weeks now, but I finally went ahead and did it (I've been test driving four of them for a few weeks). I love how they fit my kiddos now! They're super easy to use, stack neatly, and are just as absorbent and quick-drying as ever! Check it out:

What a creative way to fix a problem. I never would have thought of it, nor would I have thought about making the extra part a doubler.

My prefolds seem to be extra short, so we don't really have that problem on my toddler, but the prefolds are rather bulky on my 4 month old.

Thanks for the webpage demonstration. That was very helpful for conceptualizing what you did.

Great Idea! I've usually just folded them in tirds the long way (sot the blue stitches sides get folded into the center) but when they hit around 2, that gets too short in the rise, so this is the perfect solution for after that.

Yet another reason to take my serger in to get fixed
: I have no idea what is wrong with it, but it's sewing all wonky and it makes me so frustrated!!

Pam ~ You can do it! I was so scared, it took me two or three weeks to get used to the idea. Just try one and see how it works.

Theresa ~ The rise on these is not a whole lot longer than folding them sideways, so they might not work for you. Julia just has a super short rise (plus I like to fold the diapers low in front).

Thanks everyone. I was really surprised to see the difference in thickness between a trimmed prefold and normal one folded into quarters. Good luck all you sewing mamas
Hope they work for you too.

What a wonderful idea! I think I'll try it too!

I do have to admit - when I first saw the title of your thread I thought you meant "trimming" the diaper in the sense of sewing trim on it! I was thinking how cute it would be to "trim" a hand-dyed prefold with polka-dot grosgrain ribbon or someting. LOL - I'm such a dork! Your "trimming" idea is much better!
