My son (3.5) has never had solid poop. It's always one wet pile, no form to it. And he's been a sensitive/troubled kid since birth. Tests and therapies have found no good diagnosis for this. but I just learned that his allergy and celiac tests may not have been so accurate, and instead we're doing a trial diet hoping to see bowel or behavioral improvement.

question: how long without a change before we can give up the trial? we're on day 6 and DS has been very sweet about it but I don't want to keep him away from his favorite grains for longer than I have to.

quetsion 2: if it's not gluten sensitivity/celiac, what other foods could cause *permanent* diahrea?

prior post here, where I decided to start the trial

Edit to add: actually, if anything his behavior is worse- more unexplainable crying. the only reason I can think of worsening would be 1) he's hungry without all that grain but won't admit it 2) the increased dairy is bugging him

It will take at least six weeks to see major differences, and about a year to get back to "normal". Be very vigilant, there is hidden gluten in soooooooo much stuff, like Rice Krispies and many brands of Rice/Soy milk.

Dairy is another diahrea causing food, but I'd suspect gluten first, especially if he eats lots of it.

We're all GFCF here.

ETA: Silk brand soy milk is GF, and Blue Diamond and Pacific brands Almond milk are also GF. Don't buy Rice Dream.

He should also be on a probiotic, that should help too!

ok, I edited that post, but also, DH noticed today that DS looks thinner, and he's alarmed. I don't think just a week could do that, but he worries it has and is therefore pretty negative about continuing- after all, if gluten ISN'T the issue, we've taken away his substance and he's getting more of whatever IS the problem...

ack!
