It became abundantly clear last night that I cannot bring this LO into our current bed situation. I got almost no sleep last night because DH kept pushing me off the bed. I don't understand why he'll let the cat push him around the bed, but he won't let me do it. He was completely unaware that the cat was even in the bed until he woke up around 5 when I got up and moved to the couch. Obviously this is not going to be safe for a baby. But I also can't make him spend the first year of baby's life sleeping on the couch (which was his suggestion this morning). Aside from what that would do to HIM, I don't like the thought of what that would do to our relationship.

So my options become a co-sleeper like Arm's Reach (how long will this fit?), or getting another mattress to push up next to our bed and something like a Tres Tria so I can put baby between me and the edge instead of in the middle. What worked for you?

The other consideration being the expense, of course... I'd prefer to just get a King, but we can't justify the expense right now... but a new Twin we could probably manage (or ask for as a baby gift).

We have a queen pushed up next to a twin and it works well for us. We bedshare for several years (and usually have a pre-schooler and a baby both in the bed) so doing a co-sleeper bed wouldn't work for us...we needed something for the long haul.

Adding another mattress has always been our solution and has worked very well for several years now. We put it away when we don't need it and get it back out as our needs change.

My DH was sometimes totally unaware of the baby in our bed in the beginning, it scared me! We used an arm's reach co-sleeper for the first 6 months, then she ended up in bed with us. She started out on my side only, with a barrier on the side of the bed. After a short bit DH's senses were super sharp, now (she's 16 months) i have to practically drag her out of his arms at night if I want to cuddle with either of them!
