My husband and I had a recent loss. My cycles have not yet completely returned to normal. Even though we are grieving, we know we want to try again. We are going to wait a few months before we TTC, have some recovery time, do preconception counseling etc. to give ourselves the best possible chance next time. We will probably wait about 6 months.

Does anyone have any decent birth control recommendations for a time like this? I don't want to go on hormones short term. I don't do well on them anyway, and I want my cycles to regulate on their own. And I don't want to do anything to delay/interfere with fertility once we are ready to try. Ditto the IUD. And my man does not, er, do well with condoms, which can get in the way of any intimacy at all. Rotten.

Has anyone used the Today Sponge or other barrier methods with any TTA success? It's a weird time because we DO want to get pregnant. I mean, if I got pregnant it wouldn't be the end of the world. But we also want to do things as right as possible, see the doctors, take all the precautions, etc. So I need something that will work.

Would appreciate any advice!

I used a cervical cap years ago- I liked it but was a little difficult to get in & out but you could leave it in a little longer than the diaphragm. I am thinking in the future I might try a diaphragm because we are just not as spontaneous now that we've been married for years and years.

I thought that the sponge was not longer available. I remember a very
funny Seinfeld episode about that. Maybe they've started making it again
since then...

What about practicing fertility awareness? If you take your temp, using OPK's and charting, you'll know what your cycles are doing. If you avoid bding when you are having fertile signs, you probably won't get pregnant before you want to. But, if it does happen, it won't be the end of the world.

You can track your temps on fertilityfriend.com and also track fertility signs, mainly mucus! I'm sorry for you loss.
