It has been suggested to me to do some of my own research regarding TTC after a mc and I thought maybe someone would be able to share some of the sites/books that have been helpfull. Please let me know, I'll be ttc in Oct.

All I have is my own experience. I don't have the sources anymore, its been a long time...I had 2 m/c's in a row. The first was at 13.5 weeks, and the second was at 6 weeks. (About 6 weeks after the second one my DD was conceived, she was full term & perfectly healthy, although I was terrified the entire pregnancy of losing her too.)

Main things I remember:

Around here, they do not start doing any sort of tests to figure out why you are miscarrying until you've lost 3 in a row. Until you lose 3, they basically consider it a fluke. (Grrrrr....)

If you have carried a child to term before m/c'ing, you are less likely to have more than 2 repeat m/c's. (this is what they told me when I wanted testing after only 2 m/c and my dr refused.)

There is no medical reason to wait to TTC after a miscarriage, if you are otherwise healthy. Dr's will tell you to wait until you've had between 1-12 regular cycles for their convenience is figuring your EDD--a friend of mine m/ced within days of me, and we both independently came to this conclusion.

If you have never carried to term and miscarry early, it could be a problem with not enough progesterone, or lutenizing hormone. You can get progesterone cream OTC, and it will not harm the fetus-but if this is not the problem, it may delay an unavoidable miscarriage.

Some early miscarriages are caused by blood that is too thick-this is one of the things they test for after 3, how much your blood coagulates.

I'm so sorry for your losses. TTC after a miscarriage is such a difficult time. On one hand, you're excited about the prospect of getting pregnant and having a baby, but on the other you're terrifed of having another miscarriage.

As a previous poster said, most doctors won't do any tests until you've had three losses, but some will do it after two now.

I started charting BBT and using OPKs to keep track of ovulation when we started trying again after our loss and determined that my luteal phase was a bit shorter than should be expected. We had used no protection whatsoever for 2.5 years before we managed to conceive the first time, so we went to an RE after several cycles of trying with perfect timing and no success. After some testing, it was determined that my husband has a large percentage of abnormally shaped sperm although movement and count were fine. There was nothing wrong with me and we did manage to conceive, but my progesterone was a bit low so I was put on supplements to help even it out. I can't deny that I think it saved this baby.

If you're having difficulty conceiving at all, I highly recommend charting and using OPKs to monitor your cycles so you can keep track of your luteal phase and ovulation day to see if progesterone deficiency might be an issue for you. You should be able to talk to your health care professional (OB or other doctor) about it and see if they'll put you on progesterone to help even out your cycles. And, when you do conceive, ask for quant HCG and progesterone bloodwork to determine whether your hormone levels are sufficient and rising appropriately. If your HCG is not rising properly, there's nothing they can do. However, if it is rising properly and your progesterone is low, supplementation may make all the difference in the world.

I wish you all the best and hope that your next pregnancy results in a happy healthy baby!

I m/c first pregnancy at 7 weeks. I was devestated, but determined to be pregnant again. My DR told me to wait until I had two complete cycles to try again, so I did. I continued to chart my cycles the whole time. My body never missed a beat. It acted as if the m/c was a period and I ovulated 12 days after my first day of m/c bleeding (which was great). I continued to have my typical cycles and got pregnant on my first try (with DD). While I was WAITING to TTC, I read the book Trying Again. It helped a little. It gives you hope, you know?? Best Wishes to you...

My 1st MC (12 weeks) was due to Turners Syndrome and my 2nd (6 weeks)was a blightened Ovum so the dr said that he didn't think they were related and further testing was not needed at this point. The dr did say that due to the TS next time I am pg I would be offered an amnio (but I wouldn't do it). I have the book's Empty Arms and How to prevent mc, but while they offer hope, they don't offer many answers. I just want to be as informed as possible because I don't feel that dr tell you everything or take the time to listen and I just want to trust myself more. After my 1st mc it took almost 6 weeks for my cycle to return, but I conceived 2 weeks after that so last time I returned to normal very soon, so I hope to do the same this time. It seems crazy, but sometimes this all feels like some kind of bad dream that I have had, I almost forget that it is real. Thanks to all of your kind words and help.
