ttc after D&C

I just had a miscarriage and D&c. How long do I have to wait before ttc? I've heard mixed. Since I had a d&c will I have to wait longer since I may need more healing time or is it fine to start after my first period? Thanks

I'm so sorry for your loss.
I am going through a miscarriage right now, and was told I should wait 3 cycles to conceive again. I'm going to do it naturally, but I think it's the same for a D & C. Your body needs some time to heal, though I don't know if I can wait 3 cycles.
Healing vibes to you.
I am sorry for your loss. I just miscarried for the third time last night. My last m/c was incomplete and I needed a d & c to avoid any chance of infection(we waited 2 weeks and still had bleeding!). My midwife said that it is imperitive to wait a couple of weeks for you to heal after the d & c to reduce the risk of infection.

My suggestion would be to wait for your first period after the d & c and then start ttc again. That is what we did and I concieved with no problem. I am pretty sure my recurring m/c are because I am Progestrone deficient (I had progestrone with my ds and carried him to term, its amazing how long it can take you to find such a simple resolution!!!). Whoa... way off topic, sorry! Anyway talk to you doc, it is generally 2 weeks.

Good Luck and again I am sorry you had to go thru this!

So sorry to hear of your loss. I m/c two weeks ago and was told by my midwife to wait 3 cycles. I was not in a state to ask her why at the time and plan to talk with her about it when I see her again next week. I did a bunch of research and spoke to lots of other women and have not found a good reason to wait that long. I plan to try again after I get one period.

At first I wasn't sure how long I wanted to wait, I needed to see how I was going to be emotionally. But I feel that I've processed it very well and will be ready when my period shows up again. I can understand that if a woman takes it very hard and has a lot of emotion around her m/c, it might be a good idea to wait a little bit so that she is ready emotionally for another pg. I know it will be a scary 3+ months for me, but I feel that I can handle it.

Best wishes to you all in your time of loss.

Thanks for all the support and replies. I heard that women are told to wait 3 months to heal emotionally, but that there was no physical reasons to wait. But I still get mixed responses.
I'm sorry for your loss. I had my second miscarriage September 6. I was told the first time to wait 3 months and sort of waited. I wasn't TTC at least. It took me 5 months to get pregnant. This time -- my homeopath told me to wait 3 months and the ob/gyn told me to start trying again after my first period. I have not waited at all, but I think I'm going to get my period shortly. I've heard the thing of needing to wait longer to heal after a D&C also. I've also heard that you are more fertile just after miscarrying and, if that's true, I don't think it worked for me.

Guess I think you should do what feels right for you emotionally.
As you can see, this varries. My doctor tells people to go ahead and try as soon as they wish to. However, many want you to wait 3 months to 'heal' especially after a miscarriage.

You should talk to your Dr. or midwife and discuss the possible risks and your feelings. Ultimately, this is going to have to be your and your husbands decision.

This is such a confussing time wanting to go forward, but not wanting to be hurt again. I wish you the best as you journey through this.
Hello, I just m/c'ed for the 2nd time in a row and had a d&c preformed 3 days ago. My OB said I could begin ttc again as soon as we wanted . That pysiologically (sp?)., how long we wait will have no bearing on, or make the rate of m/c any higher for next time. That was so nice to hear. I trust my doctor and he is very popular in our city. However, for me, I recognize I need healing time so I think we will wait to ttc again until about Jan 04. HTH's.
