I've been thinking lately and I have very mixed feeling about getting tubes tied. What do all of you think? I already have a car full now :p

Well, judging by your siggy, you are still pretty young. You never know if maybe 10 years from now you will meet the man of your dreams, get married, and decide that you want more children. Is it possible for you to go on birth control for the next 5-10 years just to be really sure you are done?
I aboslutely agree this is not a decision to make so young. (I'm 24 by the way, so don't think I'm coming from the viewpoint of someone much older).

You have no way of knowing what you'll want in 10+ years, hell even 2 or 3 years etc. You have no way of knowing the path your life will be on, and what you'll want that to include.

For now, birth control is defintley a good solution, and a reliable one at that (if you're honestly considering no further children, for the time being).

But that's defintley a big decision, that I truly don't feel should be made by someone at only 21 years old, not even if they had 4 or 5 kids at that age. You never know what the future holds.
But my problem is that birthcontrol is not so .... effective on me. I got pregnant with my first 2 while I was on the pill. I can not take the shot. What birthcontrol is worth taking. I can't take many of the side affects that come with alot of the birthcontrol.
You could get the book "Taking charge of your fertility" and use natural family planning along with condoms (every time to be safe), abstinence during ovulation, and maybe even a diaphram thrown in for good measure. Natural family planning is very effective if used correctly, it's been working for me for quite some time.
I use the copper (Paragard) IUD and I am happy with it. It lasts for 10 years... The hormonal one is for 5 years.
I would look into the Mirena IUD. It is good for 5 years, and you have very light periods (if any). I would not get my tubes tied at your age. I am 35 and I am not ready for that yet.

ITA with Jillian, There are so many good books on the subject, I used it for years too and it was only when X decided (I knew all along) that we should become pregnant that we did (the first time) DS was an 'oops' but i wasn't paying attention to my cycle. I would still always use condoms if you are that fertile. I think it is hard to reverse a tubal ligation.

You are so young to make such a final decision, I've had friends choose to have babies in their 40s (not that you will) but it is nice to have the choice

How much do the IUD's cost? I really haven't heard that much about them. Do any of you know any good sites to research them?

www.mirena.com
www.paragard.com

I think the mirena is a bit less than $600 for the iud itself + the insertion appt.

I agree with everyone else. my mom was 24 with 4 kids and figured she was done and for years after she regretted it. she wanted one more and couldn't have any cuz she'd decided when she was pregnant with her 4th that she didn't want anymore. I would strongly reccommend birth control for 5-10 yrs and THEN see where you are.

:

It might sound old fashioned but what about the above and
abstinence. That's worked pretty well for me. My Mom taught
me about my cycles when I was in my teens. I was sexually
active for 10 years before I conceived dd. In a couple of
monogamous relationships, and never used birth control beyond
condoms (if fertile).
I knew better when I conceived dd, knew I was fertile, but it
was one of those drunk love what the heck go for it moments.
Which was the best oops I ever made.
I am far more afraid of contracting a disease than getting pregnant.

Type IUD into google and read what comes up. Or, if you know the exact name of the IUD you want, type that it. The website made for the IUD is obviously only going to paint a nice picture of the IUD, you want to find out all the pros and cons before you commit to anything. I went on the depo shot almost a year ago and didn't do my homework first and I regret it so much. I came home and typed depo provera into google and so many horror stories came up, including whole sites dedicated to lawsuits against depo and detoxification from depo. Make sure you really do your research.
