Are you in or near the Twin Cities? Do you want to be?
Well, then you have found your tribe! Despite our diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and interests, two things bond us together: living in the coldest state on earth...and the love for our children which warms us. The weekly tribe thread begins anew each saturday. Watch for the new thread on the main Minnesota/Wisconsin board.

Some of the individuals who post here meet weekly. If you are interested in attending a get together, please post your interest on the thread or send any one of us a PM. We welcome with open arms and minds the input of all parents, regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, political view, age, sex, sexual orientation, disability, etc.

HELLO...HELLO...HELLO...HELLO...

Where is everyone?

Knitting was fun, if disorganized, today. Looking forward to my company tomorrow for more knitting!

G has eaten tofu and green bean today, and had a taste of lemon. She really wanted more lemon. Not looking forward to any rash THAT may cause...

Back to dinner.

Mpls_momma--

I've got a sock pattern that's not too painful, and there's some really fun yarn to make them with. I made a pair for my sister but never used the extra ball to make my own. I can bring that and see what you think next week if you want.

I learned how to knit by making socks, so it can't be too bad!

Yesterday was fun.

Jessikate- Sorry I couldn't knit but if I'd have brought my knitting dh would have thought we were moving in. He was all nervous and wanting to leave before we got there.

mpls momma- nice to meet you. I too want to learn how to knit socks.

After we left SG, we hit the reale shop on 50 and Penn. No luck for me but picked W up a great winter jacket for 4.50. It was on othe bargain rack and said 3-12 months. Dh found it and had it on W, wondering how big GAP think 3-12 babies are. She still has tons of room.

Elaine- That shop we went had some snowsuits J's size for a pretty reasonable amount. I can also look at a couple others and post if I find something.

Then we went to the MOA and bought me some clothes!!!!WOOHOOO!!!! I have learned several things.....GAP maternity, while cute online is faaarrrrr to fussy/dressy for everyday life. I LOVE some of the stuff from OLD Navy(I know tey're basically the same people)but mainly th bargain rack. And Motherhood is still the place to ge everything else. Got some 3/4 lenght jeans that seem to be the perfect lenght for short me. No hemming.
ag
The sales clerk thought I was nuts buying pants 'too long' I'm like 'yes, they're too long to be long capri's but they fit perfect as reg. pant!' Hell, I did the happy dance. Any who, I'm not going to have to go naked this winter. I'm happy.

just checking in. all is well here. i've lost 15 lbs now...and still have swelling, so i'm sure i will loose more as i pee out all this extra stuff. hard to look in the mirror and remember that just a week ago i had a belly the size of a small planet.

am thanking god now for the king sized bed. ela has been moving into our bed consistently for cuddles and visits with her baby sister. i'm so engorged at night i'n wishing ella was still nursing! i've had to pump every night the last 3 evenings.

both e & f are doing wonderfully. watching the two of the together has been amazing. e has been a little fussy, but i think it as much her slow 2 year molar as it is adjustment to big sisiterhood. f is very sweet and mellow and a champ nurser (although not as much so at night...she like to latch on enough to wake me, get millk spraying, them fall back to sleep). her cord stump looks just about ready to fall off.

i'm hoping to get some time today to write thank you cards. i know i'm painfully late now...so THANK YOU to all who have given gifts, brought food, loaned dipes, hand made beautiful things, ...you know who you are, and i'm sorry i'm so late in getting cards in the mail!

yeah, THANKs for the knitting lesson. I got one row done, which is a start. Hopefully I will be able to figure it out when I pick it up again. I think I may have to get a book, though. That's how I learned crochet. I'd even love to show up at your place tomorrow, but my baby's fathers mother is supposed to be in town.

mamar--glad to hear things are going well with all!! those pix are all so sweet and delicious!

snow--how did teacher conferences go??

we did get to forestville for a night of camping. yes, one night...i told DH that next time we go camping it MUST be warm enough to do more than JUST one night b/c that is way too much work for just one night. but what a beautiful state park! we heard owls serendaing each other all night long. so awesome (and somewhat eerie--was going to wake DS up so he could hear them, but did not want to have him scared the rest of the night.) and the caves were amazing. DS REALLY enjoyed them! and we even saw a bunch of bats, all throughout the cave! and DD continued to use the potty with success while there, although she wasn't too thrilled with the pit potties. but we did think to bring her learning potty, so we had close access! (and by "we", i mean her...)

sara--thanks for the stuff!! will call soon and figure out when best to get this stuff back to you...

even though we are back from camping early, i am still going to take off tomorrow. hopefully DH will too still and we can have ANOTHER family day.

and speaking of DH, today is his b-day, so perhaps i should get off this machine and go talk to him. or maybe he is enjoying football upstairs while the kids and i are down here...

hey mamas~

i hope everyone had a great soverday yesterday!

supi...aww sounds like a sweet time you and your gals are having.

batty...a short campout sounds fun. happy bday to dh!

will...congrats on the new clothes! i LOVE shopping.

daam...speaking of shopping. today ds and i went to goodwill (searching for a top for his costume). i got two really sassy linen skirts, brown maryjane docs, an ankle-length sweater thing, and a huge enamel tray (gonna start collecting enamelware). oh and 4 tiny glasses for ds' kitchen. all for 20$!!! did i mention that one of the skirts is a size 4!?!?!?! did i?!?!? i celebrated by having soda and bbq chips.
things are still weird between dh and i, but i think we're on the right path. i hope anyway. friday we bought dr phil's relationship book and workbook (did i tell that already? swiss cheese brain).

mpls_momma, it was great to meet you again. You and your DH are definitely recognizable, even if I didn't remember your names.
Here's a link for a good sock pattern: Toe-up sock pattern. I do a different toe, and haven't used her method for that yet. Won't be around next weekend, but maybe you can get yarn and needles & bring them the following weekend and we can get you started. Once you have handknit wool socks, you won't go back.

Speaking of knitting, now I'm on a dishcloth kick. Anyone who could possibly expect a holiday gift from me, guess what you're getting? :LOL

Moon, I'm glad you and DH are working things out. I hope things are back to normal soon.

Sara Mama, where were you today? Brown, Curvie, and I had to knit without you!

DAAM: Hopefully G will be a bit less cranky and clingy... her second tooth is poking through now. DH just discovered it this morning. It hasn't taken effect yet, though... I think she was so wound up from Fish and Blue being here that she fought sleep and was miserable. She's asleep on Papa's lap now, but restless.

DAAM2: Got a phone call today asking to share my frozen milk stash (all 4 bags of it, LOL). (Friend of a family member having supply issues) It's nice to know someone will be eating what G won't accept (no bottles for my kid) instead of having to toss it for age. Though I'm feeling like I should pump a couple bags to keep as emergency reserve.

hey, a monday at 9 and i am not at work. ahh, vacation days! was up with Sir Poop-a-Lot, but it was a bit after 7, so that's cool. got a bit of my christmas presents worked on (making calendars for my mom, MIL and dear auntie with all the extra pix i have of the kids, so i was matting pix to mount soon).

now kids are watching Beauty and the Beast while i do this. want to get some stuff for halloween costumes today. DS wants to be a black cat and DD wants to be a kangaroo. i just hope that once i start this, they don't change their minds, but i guess if they do, we have a dressup box they can paw through...

moon--glad to hear things are on the upswing! men...

Hey mama's!

Just a quick hello!

Batty, I'm so bummed you were cold! But I'm glad ds enjoyed the cave!

Supi -- hope all is well. Both boys have sniffles, so we want to stay away and not share them with you all!

Lots of family stuff this weekend, so I'm really bummed we missed knitting.

But Sat we went to our CSA -- totally a blast, I have tons of squash and pumpkins and onions!! Yum yum

Batty - want to go play somewhere today?

Hey mamas.

I have to start with a bit of bad news, but good news too. My dear neighbor lady was in a car accident last night with her oldest. The car is toast. They are *fine*, but shaken up and may have some chiropractic and medical needs. I am taking them to doc this afternoon. I'm sure she would love phone calls if you have her number...those of you who know who I'm even talking about! I know she needed to hear how happy I was that she is okay.

Thank you Jess for the knitting! How could I ever wipe up a spill with my first knitting project. I'm buying a frame and hanging it in my kitchen!

Sorry I missed some of you at sg. We sat quite awhile, but needed real lunch, naps, and laundry done at home. Maybe soon I'll catch up with those of you I have not seen in too long! I just have to say that I love seeing Hakan after being MIA. O me o my. The owner of my favorite consigment shop says she has friends who have Hakan fantasies...LOL...she said she doesn't get the foreign guy thing. I told her to remind them of his marriage and family, but she said it made no difference to her lusty friends. What a bunch of desperate housewives.

Moon~ hurray for Goodwill.

I must say Batty that you are amazing and much more accomodating than I.

Mamar so happy to hear things are going well!

Okay all, my week is about to get overwhelming already so I wanted to try to keep up before I drown.

BEEEEAUTIFUL DAY!

Hi Mamas, good to see you all popping in, missing the ones who haven't showed yet - where are you mamas?

oh dear- hugosmoma! How scary for her. Brown, is she online at all these days? I'll call her today. So glad only the car had serious injury.

I have 5 inches on M's scarf! (Thx amyrobynne & jessikate)

weirdest thing - you know how M has 2 betas (Siamese Fighting Fish)? Well, they're in a tank w/ a clear flow-thru divider in the middle. This morning when D and M came down they found Beauty over on Rose Petal's side w. Rose Petal cowering behind the seaweed. D says he added water last night - did Beauty jump? (RP's worst nightmare!) So D put RP on the other side and they look like they both survived the encounter. RP is a little scraggly and Beauty has a bare spot on his side.

Moon - glad you & dh have a plan, hope it works. Size 4?! woo hoo!
and speaking of those matters - has anyone heard of Seattle Sutton? Some theatre folk have had great success w/ their nutrition plan, I am thinking of doing it in addition to the Curves - am heaviest now in my entire life - ugh

Moon-- you owe me an email...

Batty, how fun! we've never been there. Maybe we should do a tribe camping there next summer?
off to go buy garlic to make Scribbler's dh's fresh pasta/basil recipe...

hey mamas~

hugos...oh sister i'm so glad you and ds are ok! i'm sorry about the wreck and your car being toast. much love sent your way. could someone please pass that on for me?

brown...my size is deceiving. between very small frame, and tiny bones, my healthy fit size is a 2. so i can be a size 8 and be very overweight. it's all relative. did fish learn by finger knitting? also been meaning to ask. did he learn the recorder at school? ds is being pissy about learning (he wants to already be able to play perfectly), and could use some tips.

snow...emailing you when i'm done here. how funny about the fish. could have jumped, or gone over with a rush of water from dh adding more. glad the fish are ok. yay on the scarf!

batty...i'm tempted to tell ds to pick a costume from the dress up box. i thought the croc hunter would be easy. well i can't find a shirt at any thrift store! argh. are you just gluing pics onto a blank calendar, or scanning them on?

jessi...cool that you can share your frozen milk.

daam...thanks for the positive messages about dh and i. i imagine it will be a long road to healing, so i'll only bore you with the big details.

oh dear neighbor lady!! glad to hear all is well physically...if you're reading this, will call tomorow, as it is 9 already. am sure you are still up, but i won't be for much longer.

hercules, huh? where did that come from? (is it from the same place as DS's obsession with George Washington??!! not that i know exactly where that place is...)

the calendar is premade, with a blank 12x12 sheet at the top and the month header and a grid at the bottom. so i matt the pix and then glue them on.

as for costumes, DS will now be a black cat as i was having NO LUCK finding something dye-able for a boy his size. but i did find black pants and a black shirt. he is a bit upset that it won't be yellow, as yellow is his fav color and as he said tonight, yellow cats are a bit unusual. so i will keep looking (haven't yet hit up the thrift shop or old navy) but have the black as a fall back. a bit more luck with DD's kangaroo, but even then i am having a bit of a challenge finding dye-able pants for her. WHY DOES NO ONE
MAKE PLAIN CLOTHES?? (yes, i know i could find them online mailaway i looked hard enough, but...) so i got pink sweatpants and figured they could turn brown, but won't perfectly match the white shirt i got for her...but who cares but me anyways!!

oh, and recently there was a discussion at SG about where to get LEGWARMERS (think it was N) and i did see a ton at Target yesterday!
