Are you in or near the Twin Cities? Do you want to be?
Well, then you have found your tribe! Despite our diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and interests, two things bond us together: living in the coldest state on earth...and the love for our children which warms us. The weekly tribe thread begins anew each saturday. Watch for the new thread on the main Minnesota/Wisconsin board.

Some of the individuals who post here meet weekly. If you are interested in attending a get together, please post your interest on the thread or send any one of us a PM. We welcome with open arms and minds the input of all parents, regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, political view, age, sex, sexual orientation, disability, etc.

mornin' all!

glad school is going well for Fish! and you too, brown!!

and i am sure B loves his teacher, Moon!! how could he not??
and i love the flat drag queen fish image. thanks!

DS was actually fine after the at-school-puke. but it got us out early and i got some closet organizing done, so it was a good thing. DD makes clothes organizing fun b/c she wants to try on every piece of clothing i am moving.

my coworker lives in Bloomington and her DD is so scared of thunder, so that show was a bad experience for them. and then they repeated it again last night??!! poor families who don't like the noise! we had a dog who was terrified of those noises, so every 4th of July was a bad night in our house for poor Murray! i just can't believe that when they chose that night to have their pyrotechnics show they didn't alert the public or the police! yes, crowd control was an issue, but HOW SCARY for those who had no idea what was going on!

no SG for us today, due to coworker's baby shower, but hoping to see ya'll later this aft...so off to get ready a green salad for the shower and PB dip for later!

love to ya'll!

Good morning everyone!

Hakan is really hoping to see some of you today (hint hint!). Livsmama and I went yesterday morning instead since we have a mtg today.

Did you all see Starfire's thread about needing a little help w/ Moneek? Check it out if you can, I'll bump it.

Heard the fireworks again last night, fortunately we knew what they were this time (too far away to see, but near enough to hear the booming).

Scariest thing this morning. D leaves at 7a.m. for work on Sats. I woke up at 8 to the sound of a child shouting "No! No! No!" definitely coming from outside. We have kids across the street and it sounded like the child was playing so I went back to sleep. Then a minute later I heard Manon screaming from outside. Raced downstairs, opened the front door and there she was crying in her underwear. It turns out she was going outside to yell "NO" to the woodpecker pecking on the side of our house. And then she tripped & hurt her foot. So she's fine and my heart has slowed it's pounding a bit. And we've had a little discussion about going outside without telling parents and without being fully dressed, etc. yikes.

oh, it was so good to see so many of you yesterday! it was been way too long...i am almost looking forward to winter when we all slow down and break out of hybernation on Sat AMs to hang out! i mean, i love summer and being outside, but it seems we are all so much busier.

oh snow, how scary! glad it was innocent although heart racing...DS did that once too and the thoughts that flash through the mind...

was up with Mr "I pooped and I'm done" (and need my butt wiped) early. but i got a big head start on my christmas calendars that i make for my mom, MIL, and aunt. i usually start around thanksgiving and then hit the pressure point to get them done by Dec 24/25...and starting pulling grass out of the garden in hopes to have a less grassy garden next summer. now the kids are busy singing and spelling. DS just surprised me by spelling the name of his "best friend" at school (ben)!

DH is out playing golf with his bro...kind of peeves me off that on his day off when all 4 of us are here he goes off, but i also realize that it is very special for DH and his bro to have time together, time when they are NOT at work together.

still don't know about camping...but am thinking it is leaning more towards the "not this year" side of things...

What a busy weekend! Great to see so many friends, but great to come home and rest, too!

I'm looking at scheduling knitting lessons starting the first weekend of October, which would be the 4th/5th. I'd prefer Sunday afternoons/evenings, but am open to suggestions. I'd be happy to do weekdays, during the day or evening, but I know there are people who cannot do daytimes. Would all interested people email me so I can keep you updated? [email protected] I have a partial list of people wanting to learn, and I remember Amy offered to help teach. Was there someone else? By the way, I will offer my house as the class site. Or we could meet at SG on Saturdays and do it there, if people prefer.

DAAM: G has learned a whole slew of new consonants. For the longest time it was just Dadadada and Nininini. Then the floodgates opened and we get Ma, Ba, Pa, Wa, Ra, La, Na, etc. She's so cute! I think she's getting another tooth, too, as she's kinda cranky again.

My little one is three now! No nap and handled a full day of birthday partying! He woke up at 6:30 am and I crawled out of bed (he bounded) and we all went downstairs, where hiding under a sheet was a "big boy bike" (a 2-wheeler from REI). It took him a bit to get the hand of it (can't peddle backwards after all!!!), but now I have to RUN to keep up with him!

Supi! Wishing you a nice and easy birth any day now!

Okay, I'm confused. I was at SG from 11 until 12:30ish. Did a bunch of people show up after that? What's the general gathering time these days? Or were people somewhere else?

Jess--weekends are fine for me anytime but Sun morning, and all evenings but Tues work too. No weekday daytimes until next March

had a pre-natal again today. no sugar or protein. no sticks with needles. nst was perfect (once babe woke up). dilated a little. but, my blood pressure was up just a little. since my gestational diabetes is new, they were a little worried that the two might be a bad combo. my bp went right back down again (this is the second appt where it has done that), and the second reading was on my left arm. since i had elbow surgery on my left arm the circulation isn't very good on that side...which may be why the reading was higher on that side. or it could also be that i was stressed...or that i did too much this weekend (errands, api meeting, 2 birthday parties, our baby shower, relatives in from out of town, etc.).

sooo, i'm supposed to take it easy from now until thursday. not official bed rest or anything, but i'm also supposed to lay low (literally) as much as i can. we go back in again thursday, do another bp reading, do another nst, see how my sugars are, and do an ultrasound to make sure our babe and placenta are doing okay (this will be our first with this baby. we skipped routine 20 week u/s with both pregnancies...but also had one late in the game with ella for the same reason). they didn't yell "induction", but we may decide to do some gels or something next week if anything looks questionable.

i love being pregnant and really have enjoyed having a problem free pregnancy this time...up until last week. i think my body just doesn't like the last month of pregnancy. my PIH with ella didn't show up until the last few weeks too. anyway, we've cleared our schedule of all obligations (besides bill's work) for the next week. ella went to duluth with grandma for another 3 night stay (she'd been asking all weekend to go to grandma's house, so that was an easy choice...though i'll miss her like crazy) so that i can get a little more rest.

I finally made the appointment to use my gift certificate at the spa. woohoo!!!On the 27th I'll be enjoying 4 hours of me time! Facial, massage, manicure and pedicure plus some brow waxing to tame these beasts. i can't wait! And dh agreed to go shopping with me for some maternity clothes. i'm tired of trying to find my size in resale shops or garage sales. There simply are not many short, chubby people as short as me. I have yet to break it to dh the we're going to the MOA but he'll deal.lol
Gee, could I be trying to overload on 'me time'? I'm thinking about asking dh to find a sitter for after my spa time so we( as in adults only) could go out for dinner. Like a date, I vaguely remember us doing stuff like that prior to marriage/kids.......heck, i think we had some pretty good times too! lol

Mamar-
E is going to have a great time! And you should just rest. Don't let your mw push you around. Trust your instincts and your body.

Saramama- aawwwww.sounds like he has a blast with the new bike!

Jessikate- about knitting classes- SG would work best for me, otherwise I put in a lot of car time. But whatever works for everyone else is fine. I can't promise to be at every one.....

by the way we're prolly selling our Sable. if you know anyone that would be interested please LMK! It's got miles but runs so well, I don't want to sell it! but 3 kids and the Sable do not spell comfort......

Hey mommas. Posting from the crazy house. Since school has started it feels like there is never time enough in a day to get all that needs to be done accomplished. This morning was particularly insane, as Lobo managed to step in poop outside and then track it all *into* the house and *upstairs* AND on the kids' bedspread. Later on in the morning, as we sat down on the livingroom rug to read a fairytale, I discovered (with my rear end) that one of the other dogs (probably old Maurice) had lost control of his bladder. Such fun with animals, I tell ya. Anyway, school is going very well despite the madness-- went to pick apples the other day. The kids love learning their instruments, and Alec is psyched for his first touch football game on friday. ag

Jessikate~ Thank you SO MUCH for offering the knitting help! We have just been finger knitting over here thus far. I can't promise that I would make every session (the kids have Good Shepherd on Sundays), but I think Sunday afternoons might work for us. (Saturdays have become super hectic, but if that turned out to be the knitting day, I am sure I could swing it once in a while at least).

Mamar~ Hugs to you! I know how stressful it is dealing with health issues during pregnancy; we sound a lot alike, actually-- I always had blood pressure and weight gain issues at the end of my pregnancies. I hope that little one decides to come out soon!

SaraMama~ HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JAMES!! Wow! A two-wheeler?? Imala still hasn't tried that one out. Way to go James!

Batty~ Yep, there's nothing quite like being called to wipe a butt first thing in the morning.

Snow~ That would have had me totally freaked out! Nygel now knows how to unlock the front door and I am always worried that he might try to sneak out when my back is turned. Yesterday he and Philly took a pair of my Born sandals and tossed them out into the garden!

Okay, off to do some prep work for tomorrow's "building with beans" craft.

kdmw - thanks. i really do love being pregnant...its just the last few weeks that seem to bring health issues. wish the baby was as ready to come out as my body is ready to be done! and yucky about the poop! eek!

helen - ooooh, the spa sounds wonderful! i have a gift certificate to the hauschka salon on grand back from mother's day...but by the time i felt like using it, i was too pregnant to be on my back for that long for a facial. have a wonderful, relaxing time!

saramama - happy belated bday to james! you make wonderful babes, woman!

jessikate - i would love to do some knitting classes with you...but can i show up to class #2???

just posted some pictures of our baby shower up on myfamily. there's a great shot of doulasarah with some of the women she is doula for (including smeta and me). i missed seeing some of your beautiful faces, but i also know how crazy a weekend it was for pretty much everyone, including us (not to mention that it was a tad early for some folks). it was a beautiful day for my family - clear skies, crunching fall leaves...and the kids had a blast playing at the park. thanks to all who did come, and those who were there in spirit!

amyrobynne - I'm sorry no one was at SG this week to hang with. You have the times correct and we'll probably resume next wk but had some birthday parties, showers, etc this wknd. Very unusual to have no one there though. I'm planning on this Sat if you want to give us another chance.

hey mamas~

i posted twice this week, but don't see either of them. weird.

snow...i'd freak for years if ds did that! how scary.

kd...what are you building with beans? blech on the poops and peeps!

sara...happy happy to ds!

supi...i'm glad you had a wonderful shower!

i'm sorry, i can't remember the rest.

daam...had to go back to the dr on monday. my back was really bad, having spasms that seized up the entire lower lumbar region. he put me back on meds, and sent in a referral for physical therapy (blech and blah!).
on a happier note...we had our first field trip yesterday! went to the county fair, and had a blast. way too much to tell about. the cutest part of the day was the very beginning. we went on a special program for schools (and homeschools) that lets us in for free, and an hour before the public. the parking area was across the street, and you have to go through an underground tunnel to get there. (there were hundreds of kids btw) as soon as kids would enter they'd start screaming and wooo-ing! it was really cute! kind of set the mood for the day. (and i got my battered, deep fried artichoke hearts with tobasco)

missing you and hoping everyone is having a good day.
Snow--I wasn't all by my lonesome--Starfire came around 11:30 with her littler one. And there were plenty of non-MDC cute kids to gaze at before then. But I needed to leave around 12:30, so I was trying to figure out whether more people tend to show up after that so I can time things better in the future. This weekend, we're sanding and staining our floor, and my pg self shouldn't be there for it, so going to SG would give me a good place to go for awhile

Hi Mommas,
I haven't posted in a long time and so thought I should. Roo and I have been well. She went through a healing crisis lately, but is doing well now. As you may know, we're trying to detox her vaccine damage. I've been busy with Vaccine Awareness Minnesota, see the other post on Mercury and Autism, and the MN Natural Health Coalition. We've been working on so many things.
I'm sad to have missed so many soverdays. I'll miss this weekend too cause I'm doing Henna at Valley natural foods from 1-4 and have a Childbirth collective meeting in the AM. DH will have to watch the Roo that day. I've resolved to make it to more playtimes and such, so you should see me more.

KJ, you girl was so sweet. I'm glad I got to visit with you for a while last week.
Smeta I hope to see your boy soon again too.

I look forward to lots of soverdays with new babies. I just love all the babies in our tribe!!!

I should run.
so speaking of letters of the week...we have Alphabet Sharing Bags in preschool and the kids have to find things that start with the letter they have picked. so Mon eve we were trying to find "c" words for DD to share. DS was naming some things, then said, cock. i was like, "hmmm, what does that mean?" and DS says, it's like a seagull (??). so then i say, yes, some people call roosters cocks, thinking that if he brings it up in school tues, at least he's have an acceptable synomym for the word he decided to share...

otherwise...

lizzie--good to see you here! wow, sure picking a cold time to visit us all!

katie--sorry about the leaks from your animals! school sounds like fun at your place!

willows--good for you, momma! pamper thyself!!

moon honey--take care of you and that back!!

ok, drifting off here, so finish up here and to bed!
don't know if we'll see ya'll Sat, as we have adult plans for that eve and kids will be with and sleep over at MIL's, so might be a personal picnic family day thang!

LOVE TO ALL!!
