Are you in or near the Twin Cities? Do you want to be?
Well, then you have found your tribe! Despite our diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and interests, two things bond us together: living in the coldest state on earth...and the love for our children which warms us. The weekly tribe thread begins anew each saturday. Watch for the new thread on the main Minnesota/Wisconsin board.

Some of the individuals who post here meet weekly. If you are interested in attending a get together, please post your interest on the thread or send any one of us a PM. We welcome with open arms and minds the input of all parents, regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, political view, age, sex, sexual orientation, disability, etc.

thought as long as i had this blasted machine on, i'd start the new thread for those of us late nighters/early risers or those not "savvy" enough to do it. or too lazy...or whatever.

but as soon as i started, DH came home, and as i barely see him (although i barely see ya'll either, what the heck is wrong with me??!!) and so i am gonna be quick.

moon--sorry to hear of the loss of the beloved dog and your dad's sadness! pets are SO SO SO much more than just animals that live in our homes!

willow--hugs and sleep for you!

spryte--happy YOU day

all others--love!
( i skimmed last week's replies, so hope i didn't miss anything else...)

planning on going to SG tomorrow and then heading over to the nearby park. unless it is too hot...but figure with a long MN winter coming, we should get out while we can!

ok, off to talk to the DH before bed and before he works all day tomorrow (his coworker just had his stomach stapled, so DH has been working more hours than usual, if that is possible...)

Today (Saturday!) 9:30-10 a.m. to meet up at Colin's stall, buy veggies, then head on out to SG afterwards to share the bounty.
Here are directions in Oliviasmama's words:
"The market is at the corner of university and 7th in NE mpls. The parking lot of St. Boniface church. He is one of the first stalls, you cannot miss him. They had some great mixes of heirloom tomatos lst week."

Note from me - please DON'T buy jalapenos or basil - I have tons of each - enough to fill everyone's freezer w/ salsa and pesto for the winter, just let me know if you want them. Cattrane & kdmw - gotta get you some veggies yet, life has conspired against us thus far.

Also, The Midget begins ballet today at 2pm and somehow I have to find pink capezios size 10 1/2 before then! Our regular dance store is "Energy" across from Ridgedale, but that would be so out of the way....anyone know of one between NE and SG?

Moon, SO sorry about your dear pet, and all my sympathy to your dad too.

Supi --- the countdown begins!

Willowsmama, hang in there sweetie

hey all. well, no farmers market or sg for us today...although i would LOVE to see everyone! its been tooooo long.

i'm going to the hospital this morning for a 3 hr glucose test. i was spilling sugar yesterday. cnm gave me the choice to wait and redo the 1 hr next week (which i passed at 20 weeks) and do the 3 hr later if i didn't pass the 1 hr. since i've had good bp readings and am just now getting over THAT stress, i didn't want to mess around and said 'no, i'm coming in tomorrow!' so, here i go. hopefully, i will pass with flying colors like i did with dd. if not, then i can start dealing with whatever the problem is NOW versus waiting. i only have a few weeks left anyway, i don't want to spend them stressed out!

still planning on getting to SG...don't know about the market.

as for camping, also unsure...as i said, DH's cowrker has his stomach stapled, and is obviously not working at the moment. not sure when he'll be back. so if he is not back, then no northern weekend for us. it isn;t so much the "me alone with 2 kids" thing, although that is a bit of an issue. it is more the, if we camp it has to be a family thing. make sense? so i hope my unsurity (is that a word) doesn't mess up planning, but i am unsure and don't know when i will know more...

oh, the Lost Boys (flashing here from another week...) i used to LOVE that movie and soundtrack and book. i was such a vampirephile for a while in my midteens, not to mention all the hotties that were in that movie...

happy soverday~

thank you for all the kind words my sisters. talked to my mom today...she is packing up the mountain of toys and other dog stuff. said the house is too quiet. must be horrible. dad is out so he won't see her un-dogging the place. it is weird. i just can't believe tigermoon is gone. it is cruel that dogs and people are such a perfect fit, yet our lifespans are so different.

batty...picturing you a vampire...heehee. i have a set of fangs that slip on to two teeth. i went as one of dracula's brides (from the gary oldman movie) one halloween (pre mamahood). that sucks that dh has to work so much.

snow...i want pics of her in dance class!!!!!!!!!!

supi...that sucks honey. thinking good thoughts for your tests today.

catt...does a like yoyos?

ok i have a bone to pick with you minnesotans! what is with all this two pages of posts????? where the bleep is everyone? i will search my pigsty of an office space to find the paper that has all your home addresses on it and i will mail you mean nasty letters and sign you up for loads of republican flyers and hunting catalogs. START POSTING!!!!!!! (i miss you horribly)

so nice to get to SG this AM and see Hakan and the few mommas and babes that were there!

snow--thanks for the veggies. alex, clara and N were DEVOURING the tomatoes as fast as they could get them out of the bag!

went to McRae after for a brief while. there was a cicada eating dog there. too funny. i thought A would get upset, as he usually does when someone (usually his sister) hurts a bug, but he just giggled at the weirdity of a bug-eating dog. he was a bit upset by the squirrel parts that were there, left by an owl (as some bigger kid told him), but he understood that the owl needed to eat too. but all too soon my nap needy kids starting hurting each other, so we left as the time out didn't work.

stopped at Blockbuster (evil corporation that it is, but i don't know of any indies up here...) b/c we were looking for Ben and Me (ever see that, about the mouse and Ben Franklin?) but they didn't have it...DS is obsessed with anything related to Liberty's Kids, that PBS show about the American Revolution. picked up The Ring and One Hour Photo for us ad-ults when the kiddos go to bed (early this eve due to no naps).

hoping to get to a State Park tomorrow, in hopes of making the yearly pass i bought last Sept at Gooseberry worth the $$...don't know which one, if any. we'll have to see what the stars have in store for us!

ok, ramble over.

perhaps if i ramble enough today and tomorrow we can make Moon stop b*@^*ing about our threadpoor posts of late (just kidding, dear Moon! )

Willows - you're in my thoughts. Hope everything's going okay and you're taking it easy.

Supi - I hope your glucose test went well this morning. You take it easy, as well!

Moon - sorry to hear about your pup. So sad.

Sorry we missed everyone at SG today. G fell asleep at 10 and slept almost till 12. That's a great nap for her, as she usually goes about 1/2 hour. But I was sleeping next to her, so it made a difference.

DH is out enjoying the Autumn Brew Review, checking out lots of microbreweries. Hope he drinks less than he did last year. He took the bus, by the way.

Off to stop G from eating her laundry...

Didn't make it to SG. Had to finish off this week and didn't want to bring my streak o'horrible luck and pass it to anyone I know.

i had a total breakdown this morning. What started as an arguement over some very, very stupid thing escallated into me bawling. I hate argueing but I so hate agrueing when preggo. My hormones put dh at an unfair advantage!
We finally got eveything worked out, I don't think he realized just how stressed I am. i told him I'm jealous of him going to work ( to begin with - how sick is THAT!?!?!?!?!)because when his 'work day' is done, that's it. His boss isn't going to call him at 10:30 and tell him to come back in, ykwim? DH thinks I'm going to end up with a nervous breakdown causing myself this stress. He suggested that I set up a work day of sorts.Since I can't parent and say ' I'm only cleaning from 7-12' or anything like that. Well I could but it would entail ignoring the girls, not good. I think I'm going to have 2 or 3 short(1/2 hr or so) cleaning sprees with S. Not to sound mean but we gave her a raise in her allowance to cover her helping around her........I'm not saying yeah for slave labor but doing a few chores wouldn't hurt, right?

Ended up having a pretty good day. Dh ran errands with me! Then we hit some garage sales, got a double stroller for 50.00!
We figure we'd better get some stuff now as this babe has the audacity to come before the next garage sale season starts. Can you believe it ! I can't even find out boy or girl while there's still sales. Sprout best not have a problem with unisex sleepers.lol Note to self- read TCOYF and don't get pregnant before using what you learned.....again!

Moon- I'm so sorry for your dad. losing a pet is so hard. Maybe later a new doggie would help ease the pain.........

Snow- Wal-Mart has ballet shoes for under 15.00 so does Payless.

Cattrane- lol. i just might. Hey I do have a gift cert. for a day at th spa.......Day of Indulgance here I come!
If you ever make it to SG again, I might have to pick your brain about doggie training..........

Mamar- Hope the 3 hr. went well! With W I was borderline gestational diabetic so I can tell you lots. I d know worrying will only make you a mess!( this coming from ME!: )

Hey Moon. if I pm you addy will sign me up hunting catalogs?hehehe DH love those.

Anyone know how to make pesto? i love pesto, everyone else here doesn't but they can fend for themselves.

oh helen, i so relate. its hard work being a mama. i know my dh envies some of the 'freedoms' i have being at home all day...but its also very hard work, my boss can be quite sweet, but equally unreasonable, etc. and yea, the hours are awful!

DAAM: i feel like i only post bummers lately. so, here's my bummer for today... 3 hr gd test came back positive for gestational diabetes. disappointed and surprised, but at least we know instead of delaying for another week and being stressed about not knowing. cnm left it up to me if i want to do the whole blood sugar testing thing, since i'm full term this week...but i think i will. it might not make a huge difference, but who knows. the funny thing is that i think being worried about PIH again (even though my chances were very slim of getting that again) kept my diet very much in line of what would keep gd at bay too. obviously it did, since i passed my 1hr and wasn't spilling sugar until the last weeks. anyway, no more izzy's for me! i spoke with a good friend, mel, who had gd throughout her last pregnancy. she's a chef, and very healthy, and she had some wonderful advice of things i can do...and was encouraging too. its so late in the game to stress too much about it...really.

oh, and i have the best doula in the world. doulasarah came and kept me company during the 3 hr test this morning while dh took dd to the park. made the whole thing much more pleasant.

Mama's!

Batty - totally understand about the camping as a family thing. I totally feel the same way. Just wanted you to know you were loved!

Supi - ugh! Let me help you cook these last few weeks. At least you didn't gd until the very end.

Helen - good for you hitting the sales early! When i was pg the weirdest things would upset me...it got sothat I would tell DH I was just having a PG moment--I got to rant and then we would laugh about it! As for cleaning --well somrtimes we just don't! The house was filthy until this morning & then we cleaned together.

DAAM - spent the afternoon at my parents and took a boat ride on Lake Minnetonka -- one of those cruise boats donating time for charity -- and james LOVED it -- ran around (holding mine or his father's hand of course) and john slept through it. Then we went swimming! September in Lake MTka!!! So HOT outside, then we went to dinner with my parents at a Byerley's (yummy salad bar -- should have seen james eating vegies from it!!! -- unlike my brother's kids who are allowed to simply eat bread and refuse all else...) and then we wandered around Byerly's -- WHAT A SUPERMARKET! Holy Cow, the olive bar was to die for. I bought marinated little cippolino onions and all sorts of good stuff. Then john poked himself in the eye, so we had to go nurse!

T Eons ago (when I had free flight benefits) I used to go to Paris all the time and my best friend and I would go hit the markets there -- I love to cook and the food there is awesome. One night in a she-she market we found these little cippolino onions and wine (of course) and I made some wild pasta dish with them...anyway to make this a longer story, we never found the dang onions again. And boom I find them in Chanhassen...I have to call her now!

hugos has gone missing too...got online and now is MIA...hmm.

how did The Midget's first dance class go? she was so cute and so excited when she was telling DS where she was off to next!

there is a creek across the street and there are always ducks and Canada geese around, but the past week the geese have been ALL OVER our yard, esp in the eves, eating our grass. DD gets so excited and makes all sorts of silly noises. this eve she ran out to see them and when she saw they were eating grass, she said, "they think they are horses!"

my kids love washing the floor with me and i don't have to worry yet about the whole allowance thing. guess i should enjoy it while it is still a pleasure and a treat to them instead of a chore, huh!

got our "You have Kids" tax rebate today, YEEHAW!! hoping to bank it and forget about it and then head to NYC to visit next spring...

DAAM--i LOVE feta cheese and had a bowlfull of leftover noodles and tons of the cheese for dinner. mmm mmm. any excuse to eat that is a good one to me!

(just rambling in hopes of meeting Moon's critical observations of the length of our threads of late.
but truthfully, i was wondering for a while what is going on that we could go from 5+ pages to 2...suppose with some people not posting anymore, that is only obvious!)

ok, natives getting restless and also in need of bathing!

I had the u/s today and it's good (can you believe it!) news! Sprout seems to be growing great! In fact it seems Sprout is big for his/her age. I date 13wks.3days by the measurements and 13wks. tomorrow by actual dates. woohoo! Of course, we are still at boy, girl, baby hamster about the sex but seven wks. will take care of that. i am so relieved. I didn't notice so stressed I was getting till i saw/heard that Sprout looks good. It's like I've been holding my breath and finally exhaled, ykwim?

W seems to be weaning some. She wants snuggles and back rubs more then booby juice at times. I'm sad but think I am doing/did what best for her for over 14 mos. and it's prolly beat for Sprout with the bleeding I had. She still giggles when she sees the boob and dances just less asking. More daddy time too.
sigh........

I canned green beans yesterday!!!I am so proud of myself. Picked them at the organic farm Saramama intro'd us to. I want to do apples/applesauce this week too. yum.

i also held dh to his promise to help more. Yesterday, while I was gone dh& bc(basement critter) trashed what remained of my kitchen. Dh had done a pretty good job of trashing it earlier that weekend but they finished it off with a bang. Dishes balanced so when you touch them they fall sending silverware(steak knives) speding to attack feet. I was not happy. And I didn't ( say that with me- DID NOT) wash them! I left them for dh or bc, neither wanted to them. When I was questioned, I said 'I am not washing those. You 2 may or you may not, I'm not guilting anyone into it. however, if they are not washed by tomorrow morning, we will go to everyone having 1 set (plate, bowl, glass and silver) that they are soley responsible for. I'm not tryign to be a bitch but I have asked, yelled and cried about the dishes, it's not worth it. Do whatever you want.' DH, crabby as he was, washed every single dish! I almost fell over. Hell, it was hours ago and I'm still shocked.

S started her dance class tonight. now I remember why I like it, I get knitting time! Dh usually has W and even if I bring her, there's a neat playroom. Breathe out with me....aaahhhhh....

batty- lol about the 'horses' How's C being in different class going?

Brrrooowwwwnnnnnn- are you ok???????

Supi- how's everything?

My bad for everyone I'm skipping.

howdy mamas, hope all are well tonight

hey Willows - that is fabulous news!!! (& am with SaraMama w/ regards to bc, wtf???! am assuming bc is a roommate?)

The Midget's dance class was fun and funny depending on your perspective. Took some pics (of course!) and got a particularly funny one that was SOOO M, and you could see the tattoo thru her tights. (let me know if you want the link) Now we're trying to get Cattrane's boy in it and maybe becca's Z too.

how are you feeling supi?

I'm missing Brown and hugos and curvie and wacka (and moon, you've been awol a couple days after scolding us so! and cattrane I know you are here, show yourself woman!) and (Edited to remove the attempted list of names because there are just too many!) come out of hiding mamas

am opening a show Wed afternoon so a few long days here, but nothing like usual, it's just a tour. (& dare I say a sucky one at that?! shhhh!)

bc is dh's friend that lives in our basement. When he first moved in he hardly left the basement and started to look all pale and scary, we (I) nicknamed him basement critter. He finally started going out when we stared asking him if he still had a reflection.lol
