Well, I'm still here in the hospital. No going home for me. I almost got sprung today, until they weighed me. I gained 4 more pounds today!!!

Good news though is my BP is still decent.

However, this evening, around 5 ish p.m, I started having contractions. They are not intense, but then again, I don't know what intense is. They are also about 8-10 minutes apart.

I've since started laying down on my side and drinking water hoping to keep the contrations awayl. Anybody got any ideas for chasing contractions away?

Dr isn't giving me terb. Says I'm going to have c-sec if they continue.... BUT, now the bad news.... She's going away for a meeting starting tomorrow morning through Friday night I don't want another doc to deliver me so.....
pray I make it to at least Sat. But, if things continue the way they are, then I'm going to deliver on Sunday most likely.

I'll keep yall posted.

Hugs all!

Wow -- I wish I could offer some advice but I'm new to this, too. Plus it really seems like you have this in perspective. I hope you do make it til your Dr. gets back but whatever happens you will know you did your best and it sounds like the babies are doing well, right. I'm sure all our thouhts will be with you -- keep us updated as much as you can

I had twins with my last pregnancy. One question--do they have you on an IV? When I had an IV, my weight shot up like crazy!! All the sitting around combined with nonstop fluids made me puff up like a balloon, and before that I'd been pretty normal when it came to water retention.

I don't know what your recent medical background has been (I'm due in March), but when I saw your "twin" post I really wanted to offer some support. I hope everything goes well, and I'm sure it will. You're at a really great gestational stage for great results. I'm assuming they're checking the babies' lungs and making precautions for an early delivery?

Take it easy and rest up. I had labor-like contractions for weeks before my boys arrived (at 40wks 1 day), and all my doctors kept telling me I'd deliver pre-term.

Hugs!!!

Taking a nice warm bath (esp in epsom salts) and drinking a glass of wine is supposed to slow things down to a stop, hopefully...
But I don't know what you can do/get sneaked in when you are in the hospital... they might freak if they saw alcohol levels in your blood! :LOL

Oh, and a dose or two of a good calcium&magnesium supplement is supposed to slow things too.

4 pounds of fluid in a day... oh yuckie!

Alcohol works for me, though I don't think it would do much for your fluid retention. Just keep taking it one day at a time.

I was also wondering if the weight gain could be blamed on IV fluids...

As for labour slowing/stopping strategies, I second a bath. Good to hear that your BP is staying good, and glad that you're coping so well with being in hospital. 35 weeks is good!

Good luck, keep cooking those babies and keep us updated as you can (and thanks to your sister for filling us in!)

Hospital Update - Day 5

Well, just when i think things are going great because I'm feeling pretty good, my lab stuff starts telling stories about me
My 24 hour urine bucket (did yesterday and ended at 9:35 p.m. last night) came back at 1.5. The day before it had only been .4. YIKES. That's a pretty big jump.

My labs keep going ok though so far. The vampires came back again in the middle of the night for more blood. I don't get why they can't take my blood at a decent hour other than 4 a.m...

It's bad enough I'm tossing and turning - I think the Ambien isn't working - either that or it is and I'd be in real trouble if I wasn't taking it

Oh well, I know - I'm full of complaints. But I an't help it. My back is really sore from laying in the bed. Angela, I took your advice and asked about a pool. No pool, but they are putting me in for physical therapy massage. So maybe that will help get me a little more uncomfortable.

The nurse last night couldn't say enough how huge I was. I was like thanks. She said - no, I mean your belly. I'm like, yeah thanks. I know how huge I am. I can't even do pelvic tilts any more or that cat/cow stretch to help manipulate my lower back.

So, I'm up for any stretching advice you gals have to offer. Remember though that I've got a gigantic belly in my way

As for the good news, the doctor on call ( my peri is gone until Sat) says that depending on my 24 hour bucket again and my labs, I'll probably deliver Sunday or Monday. So that is well within my 35.4 week range. The closer I get to 36, the happier I am. You neer know, I might keep on chugging to my original scheduled date of Nov 2. Just have to do it here in the hospital.

I'm keeping myself fairly entertained with my needlepoint, making applique stockings for my kids and watching movies I brought from home. Although I'm almost out of movies from home - will have to get some more from DH.

Oh, as for the babies, they are doing well. All the nurses say how happy my babies are. So, I guess that's great.

I am having contractions, but I have to wonder how much of the contractions are brought on by that monitor. I know I do have them more times than others, but they are not conisistent, consistent over a 24 hour period. Still though, the last 3 nurses have asked if I'm getting terb shots and I said, no. They said, my doc is probably going to just let me labor on my own then. This is good I guess so my babies can maybe decide when they want to show up instead of us forcing them out via surprise. So, I guess I'm glad my peri isn't in town. she'd probably have me in or already....

A friend off another list I'm on is being induced today. She's expected to have over a 10 pound baby. I may see if I can sneak out of my room to go see her once I get the ok from her family. I'm so excited about her having her baby! Let's hope she has a speedy delivery!

Hugs to all and thanks for listening and putting up with me and my updates. I'd be lonely without you guys offering up kind words and advice!

Oh yeah - GO 'STROS!!!!! Woo Hoo! I was so happy for them last night! What great news!

p.s. Some of you ask about bathtubs.... -- No tubs here, but I did manage to ask for physical therapy massage. Hopefully, that will help some.

p.s..s I wish I could have some alcohol. esp yesterday. I was experiencing a lot of back pain. Not lower back per say, just achy back pain.

p.s.s.s.s I miss DH as much as he misses me. BUT, he comes up and sees us and he hugs on the babies. It's super sweet.

One that I really enjoy is in cat position, bend your back so that your right hip is pointed toward your head, and your head is pointed toward your right hip (kind of like you are looking behind you, trying to see your right booty cheek ) and then switch to the left. I love this stretch! I don't think your belly will get in the way for that one.

You sound like your spirits are still up - keep thinking positive thoughts!! GOOD JOB on making it to 35.1!!!!!!!!!

I came here this morning to see if there was an update on you! I hope you keep chugging away and make it to your goal or longer! Think low protein thoughts. :LOL

As far as stretches, here's one of my favorites, and I think you could do it with a huge belly. Sitting up, or in a chair, Walk your hands around towards your back, so you are twisting yourself as if looking behind you. Do this both ways. It stretches out your lower back really nicely.

Have fun in your massage!

Yay for the massage! Maybe you could get one every other day!!! Wouldn't that be nice? Hope they are careful with your ankle trigger points; I am sure the massage therapist is trained in prenatal massage and how NOT to help labor come along.

You have so much courage! Keep us updated on how you are doing and those twinsies. My friend had her twins on Nov. 1st last year but I cannot remember how many weeks early they were. I am having dinner with her tomorrow night so I will ask. She delivered vaginally, even.

Hey, complain away!! I would be miserable if I were in the hospital and/or on bedrest. You're entitled to complain all you want! But really you're not complaining so much as just reporting what's going on. The massage sounds nice. In a hospital I used to work at (I was one of the vampires who come to draw blood at ridiculous hours of the night!) they had volunteers who did Reiki, and that's something that you could ask if they have too. Perhaps you could talk to a L&D case manager or something about stuff like that?

Anyway, glad to hear that you're doing pretty well and keeping positive, and that the babies are doing well. I think that you're all going to be fine! Keep updating us!

Hi Christy, thanks for the update, been wondering how you're doing! So glad you made it to 35 weeks! I would be super pissy and uncomfortable, too. Even on a normal day I feel itchy to stretch, if I sit too long my butt hurts. So I can't imagine how sore and tired you are just from laying around!

Oooh, I think reiki or anything else like that that may help you mentally and physically would be great- even if you brought them in yourself and it had nothing to do with the hosp.

Keep us updated! I'm so glad you're able to stay connected!
