Okay so I am having the hardest time taking my prenatals without gagging on them! The are Prenatals from Twinlab and I thought they would go down better because they are in capsule form but not so. They smell like fish and make it so hard to go down, right now pills just don't agree with me.

Anyone else tried these prenatals? Any prenatals that you love?

I tried a couple of different kinds (Carlsons and Isotonix) before going with the Rainbow Light brand - which were recommended to me by my midwife, as well as a couple of pregnant friends. I LOVE them! First of all, after just a couple of days, I could poop again. The iron they use really is non-constipating, unlike some of the other brands.

They have two different types. A one a day, called "Just-Once Prenatal", that you take only once per day. After reading several reviews, I decided these might be a bit too large for my swallowing preferences. But some people did say that even though they are big, they had no problem.

I decided to go with their "Complete Prenatal System" instead. They work great for me. You do need to take 6 per day, but they aren't huge, and I've found them easy to swallow with lots of water. I try to split them up throughout the day, taking 2 at each meal. But often I forget to take them at breakfast, or to bring them with for lunch, so end up taking all 6 after dinner. Surprisingly, they have NEVER bothered my stomach doing it this way at all!

The fact that they are food-based, versus made of synthetic vitamins, makes all the difference. It also included your daily probiotics and many other supportive herbs and supplements that aren't included in most other brands. I found them on Amazon for over 50% off and ordered a big enough bottle that I also got Super Saver shipping! It was actually a better discount for me than ordering with my "health care provider" 50% off discount and having to pay for shipping. So check it out!

I just take two Flintstones vitamins. I bought the gummies so I could share them with my 17 month old. My Mid Wife said that was a great alternative for me.... the others I've tried just made me throw up that horrible yellow stuff.

5ed cI think I've seen "Flinstones" on every care provider "optional vitamin" list!
Seriously.

I've been taking prenatal vitamins for almost 5 years now (started when TTC dd1, have continued since then) and I generally stick with the one a day store brand. The one on my shelf right now is "Spring Valley" which I think is the Wegmans "natural" brand. But it could be the Target brand. Not certain. They're pretty small/easy to wash down but during the first trimester when I was having a lot of gagging issues I took children's vitamins along with dd1/dd2 or sometimes bought one of those "nutritional" beverages.

I find that washing them down with a hot beverage (tea, coffee, ovaltine) works better than a cold beverage/water.

I also take probiotics, a calcium/magnesium/zinc, and a flax. The flax are by far the ickiest and I've had a lot of trouble taking them this pregnancy.

I second Rainbow Light. My midwife suggested them and they are not too expensive. I take the one a day one...but I don't have any trouble swallowing big pills. And they helped me poop too!!!

I had m/s (all day m/s!) until about 18 weeks, so I was taking the L'il Critters Gummy Vites up until then- they were the only ones that didn't make me vomit or at the very least gag trying to get them down.
I'm going to have to try the Rainbow Light brand, once I run out of the random vitamin samples I got from my ob's office.

Careful because a lot of prenatal vitamins have high levels of lead in them.

I take ONLY Standard Processes vitamins, per my holistic chiropractor. I have to take adrenal supplements (8 per day!) all the time, not just during pregnancy, and I've added fish oil and catalyn to that for pregnancy. They taste ucky though, and I'm just now at a point where I don't dread my morning med session.

Mmm... Flintstones sound good right now. I checked the FDA lead list and they expose you to 0.212 µg Pb/day of lead. Eek.

I posted about this ages ago and there was actually a really helpful ensuing thread, if you search.

I discovered that the reason prenatals make you pee neon yellow is that most of them are not food-based and hence you pass more than you absorb. Plus, food-based supplements don't have to be taken with food. After trying the Rainbow Lights (not food-based), I ended up with New Chapter Prenatals which are awesome! I take one 3x/day along with two Nordic Naturals Prenatal fish oil capsules in the morning and one iron pill at night for my anemia. The New Chapter smell like veggies and I've been really happy with them.

Actually, anything containing more B than your body needs at that particular moment will result in the bright yellow pee. It's a common "bio geek joke" (you know, spike the coffee at the management meeting with B6). If you eat a couple spoonfuls of yeast extract/brewer's yeast you'll have the same thing... the Bs are water soluble and any extra just gets sent on it's way regardless of the source.

Amazon is cheap with the free shipping. I got them locally and paid $55 + tax for the 180-count bottle.

Thanks for clarifying, wombat
I did compare all the ingredients with my previous prenatal and felt the New Chapter stacked up nicely. The Rainbow Light comes in a package with fish oil supplements, which was tempting, but I'm somewhat of a creature of habit once I find something I like. And I love how the Nordic Naturals are a gel capsule, hence no taste.
