just wanted to share that i had the nuchal translucency test today. i was so dreading it. i am so glad i selected an ultrasonologist whom my mws said had great bedside manner -- they were right. we saw the baby and s/he is perfect -- the fold measures 0.9, whereas in excess of 3.0 is a problem. also strong nose bone, good muscle tone in the stomach, and lots of independent arm and leg movement. if the first and second weren't there, they would be soft indicators for downs. and the latter pretty much rules out spina bifida. i had no idea how worried i was about this until we got the green light.

i am pretty anti-u/s -- this will be our one and only -- so i was surprised at how thrilled i was so see our little baby on screen (we got 2 shots to take home). i thought i couldn't be more bonded, but i am. the ultrasonologist says s/he is the perfect little angel baby. dh, who i had been feeling was less attached to this baby than i was , was deeply moved. the ultrasonologist says the baby can recognize our voices now. dh had been talking to the baby in a high cutesy voice, pretty much just to amuse me, he admitted. now he is using a deep voice so that the baby knows it's his father!

Ultrasounds are amazing, aren't they? I'm so glad everything is looking good for you!

We don't have any real reason to do any ultrasounds here -- not high risk for anything, so we probably won't have one. It is incredible, though, to see your little baby swimming around on that screen. It really made everything much more real for us. So did knowing the sex, actually, but we won't do that this time either.

Yay, PiePie! It doesn't matter how anti-u/s a mama is, there is nothing that can take your breath away like the sight of your unborn baby on the screen wiggling away! Glad all your results were good. The peace of mind is invaluable! With DD, the u/s at 20 weeks was also what made it "real" to him. This time around too, he couldn't believe how well formed the baby was at 11 weeks and that s/he was moving around and the unbelievable heartbeat!

Thanks for sharing too that the doc says the baby can hear now! I'll have to tell DD that her sister/brother can hear her now You must be in the 11-13 week range, right? I'm 14w1d today!

Yay, PiePie! I'm so glad everything looks good! I had my NT scan yesterday, and it was so reassuring to see that everything looks fine. And totally amazing to see that little mini-baby wiggling away on the screen!!!
