On Aug 2nd, at night, my soon to be 3 year old DD said, "I am glad that Hunter's going to be born today."
I woke the next morning at 8:30 with light labour pains. I had them all day. Around 1:00, I called friends of ours to see if the girls could spend the night because I realized that they might get freaked out by me being in pain. They went off to spend the night around 3pm. Our friends were shocked that I was laughing and walking around.
At 5pm, it got painful. Part of me wondered what we were doing at home, but the idea of a hospital kept me there. Around 5:45, I got in the shower to make things feel better, but it hurt like hell. My DH said I only yelled twice. At 6:15, my water broke in the shower. He told me I needed to get out and get to the area we had set up ASAP. I did, between contrax. At 6:30, the head was ready to come out on the first push. DH wanted me to sit down more, but I told him he had to deliver with me 1/2 squatting because I couldn't get in any other position DH put his gloves on and on the 2nd push, the baby was out. The cord was around his body and DH got it off of him and suctioned his nose and mouth. I sat back and he laid the baby on me. Everything was great. At 6:55, the placenta came out. DH clamped and cut the cord when it was time. Everything was really peaceful and wonderful. I only had 1 1/2 hours of hard labour!
The baby was about 9Lbs and was 21 1/2 inches long. He had a full head of hair, which made DH think he was a girl, but I knew it would be a boy. DH said that if he knew it was that "easy" he would have delivered all the children at home by ourselves!
When we talked to our DDs on the phone, the precocious 2 year old said, "Mama, did you push the baby out?" We picked them up in the morning, although we both wished that we had gotten them home that night so that we could all be together.
We have shocked the community we live in with the fact that we had a UC. Many of them we have told that the midwives were stuck in traffic so that they wouldn't totally freak out.
Now, we have to apply for BC ASAP because we are moving out of state within the next couple of weeks! ARGH!
