Mary Siever is going to be interviewed on CBC Morning News this week. She believes her segment will air on Thurs. (June 21st) at either 8:15 or 8:38 Eastern time. I'm also passing along a letter from a producer from CTV National News. They are interested in doing a story, as well. Apparently both stations are interested in covering this because the Society of OB/GYN's of Canada (SOGC) is officially coming out against UC (surprise, surprise). They're holding a conference this week, and UC (or freebirth) is on the agenda (among other things). I'll enclose information about this also.

From Elizabeth St. Philip:

We would like to speak to a woman who plans on giving birth unassisted, as well as a woman who has already done this. We are interested in learning if this is a growing phenomenon and why more women are opting for this method. This story would be a two minute profile on freebirth. The reason this story came to our attention is because of the Society of OB-GYN's of Canada. You may be aware that the society is telling patients not to attempt unassisted births. However, we would like to speak to women who feel this is the best option for them. I can be reached at 416-313-2502.

Many thanks,

Elizabeth St. Philip

"Freebirth" Puts Misinformed Women and their Children at Risk

Promised a "natural" childbirth experience, some Canadian women are
opting to deliver their baby at home, completely unassisted by a midwife or
other healthcare professional. Outgoing SOGC President Dr. Don Davis is
available to discuss the ethical, legal, and safety implications of this
practice.
