UC & precipitous labors

I was reading a little Michael Odent about his presence slowing labors and was wonder if I could find a trend with UCers. For those of you who've birthed both attended and UC, have your UCs been noticeably quicker?

My only UC labors were 1hr 40m, 50m, 7m, 2m, and 10m. My only attended labor was 14 hours but it was my first AND was induced and artificial augmentation was added to keep it going. I think my son was born a few weeks earlier than he would have been if not for a stealthy MW. I also think the induction would have failed if not for the augmentation.

I was wondering if any of you have evidence to contribute... especially with fewer buts and ands.

You're saying you had a 2 "minute" labor? No contractions leading up to it at all?
My first two were attended and were 26 hours and then 17 hours. My last was UC and was 12 hours. I don't know if it got quicker because of the lack of attendants or because it was my third baby. We will see how long this one's labor is in September (hopefully).

I had two contractions that I considered B-H in the four hours previous. They were maybe 10 seconds and nothing I couldn't talk or walk through. I was lying down chatting on the phone with a friend when I felt a little movement that was kind of like a little wiggle in my yoni but I disregarded it as there was no pressure or contractions accompanying it. Maybe 15 or 20 minutes later I got hyper alert and just knew the baby was coming. I told Martha, who was supposed to be there for the birth, and hung up the phone. I told mmy dh the baby was coming, he herded me into the bedroom, maneuvered me kneeling over the bed, the baby crowned and his head was born in one contraction (YEOWZER!), then his body was born. I laid on the bed when DH handed me the baby, we snuggled a moment before I latched him on, and then called Martha right back. She acted shocked the baby was already born. I was pretty POd that she was still at her house instead of on her way. From my perspective a lot of things had gone on in the time she considered nothing. It wasn't until I got my cellphone statement that I realized it was just two minutes from the time I hung up until I called her back that, that I was less hurt about her not even having left her house. She was probably still getting her shoes, keys, and daughter around.

The funny thing was both Martha and I had the sense during the pregnancy that, when everything was lined up for the baby to come (he was EDD+19d), he was going to come right then. We both thought she'd miss the birth but kept playing along to placate my dh's anxiety about another UC with no outside support. We had no clue how literally prophetic we were.

My first (midwife attended) was average in length, around 11-12 hours. The UC's were fast - 2 or less hours. My last one was the shortest - about 1.5 hours. And it was pretty much painless. I call it my 5 contraction labor.

Well, that's pretty darn cool - I'm packing my wal-mart birth bag... In the past I've contracted alot, but it all seems the same up until transition - so I just know if I just go with the flow and keep doing my normal stuff, I'm going to have my baby at Wal-mart.
If I can just get to the mini-van...

Mine have all varied, and it doesn't seem to matter whether they are attended or not as far as length of labor.

My induced hospital labor was 3 1/2 hours.

MW attended homebirth 5 hours

MW attended homebirth 11 hours

1st UC 17 hours

2nd UC 4 hours

3rd UC 4 hours (this one started in the morning, but stopped again until evening)

I knew without a doubt in the world that my UC babies were on their way for many hours, but I don't count all those widely spaced and hugely irregular contractions when I add up my labor time.

My last birth was a homebirth w/a midwife. I called her to come over, I was around a 4-5 and my labor stalled out when she and her team arrived. She wasn't fully convinced I was in full blown labor so she left and then sure enough my labor picked up and we ended up with an unplanned UC 2 hours later! I am so convinced that her presence changed things, this is definitely a contributing factor to my choosing a UC this time around.
hospital birth (lots of back labor)-- 14 hours
uc1 (no back labor)-- 6ish hours
uc2 (lots of back labor)-- 9.5 hours

Baby 1- Hospital, pitocin, cesarean after 5 days of fake labor
Baby 2- coerced hospital induction, pitocin cesarean after 6 days of fake labor
Baby 3- UC, 36 hours of mostly back labor (he came out "sunny side up'). and whoosh, through the water like a torpedo.

Amen to that! I think it's more of a trapdoor than a yoni, and they just give a quick knock before they come out!

No disrespect meant to your yoni.

My water broke with my 1st. 15 hours of early labor, 12.5 hours of active labor, almost 28 hours total. With my UC baby, I had 3 contractions that were very strong over an hour, then they were 7 minutes apart, 5 minutes apart, 3, 2...she was born in less than 4 hours.
My first was hospital induction with pit. I dialated fully but had a c/s 14 hours after pit was started. My attended homebirth I was in labor for 11 hours. My UC was 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Lol!!!

My homebirth (then hospital transfer) was 38.5 hours start to finish
My second homebirth was 9 hours
My UC was 1.5 hours

Very differently positioned babies (first two vs. last) and first two had NO prodromal labor, last baby had lots of BHs prior to real labor. He was the biggest (last baby) by a LOT and he was the easiest to birth.

I don't think attendees made it longer, but I certainly felt more free this last time so maybe I didn't realize it. I don't think it would have been super significant of a time frame for me... I don't know though.

Interesting topic.

Um, sign me up for one of those please!

My uc was my only ever labour. I had about 2 hours of painless ctx, 1 1/2 hours of only kinda painful ctx and then 1 1/2 hours of excruciating pain (which is what I really count as labour), before baby was born. In retrospect, the ctx only started hurting when someone else arrived at the house, even though she was in the other room and I never really saw her. I am REALLY wanting to work towards a less painful labour this time.
