I'm normally off by 4pm everyday and my childcare ends at 5. Well there having a mission vision planning and are requiring ALL employees to attend and it doesn't even start until 6pm! The min amount of time they have lasted is 3 hours and I still have to drive an hour home! (So thats 11pm at the least) I tried explaining I don't have childcare available after 5 except 2x a month when I run the support groups and even then its only if she doesn't have other plans. My boss basically told me "tough, you have to attend". This has never been mentioned as a job requirement and in the 18 months I've been there its never been an issue. I swear I'm about ready to quit with all the crap there lately

I feel your pain!! I always worked until 4pm...I'm in a unionized company (in the office though..) our hours are picked by seniority. We merged with another company last year and for some reason we lost a lot of our newer employess (either quitting or getting fired...). I've been there 8 years and the company we merged with has a LOT of longtimers (20-30 years...) who pick all of the early shifts. I'm now working until 6pm. Daycare closes at 6pm, so that's no longer an option. I now have to beg and plead with family members to watch DS for me ALL summer. I'm just feeling super guilty for imposing, and angry with the company for not hiring more people, and feeling stuck, because I could never make this much $$ anywhere else (being a single mom its a necessity...) I was actually the last person to get a daytime shift, my coworkers (mostly single moms) have to work 12:30-9pm! I guess I should be thankful, but it's SO stressful. I guess employers know if we want to work, we're at their mercy

If there is no one to watch your child while you are at these meetings, then maybe you should suggest to this insensitive lout that you will need to leave, pick up your child, then return to work for these meetings.

Is there a way you could join by teleconference? Then all you would need to do is invest in a phone with a headset jack and a headset. You could take care of the child needs and still be able to have input and knowledge of the meeting.

Is there anyone else there in your boat?

These things are so aggravating!
