This morning I braved the scale (something I haven't done since my positive test back in December) and I was completely horrified to see the numbers. I have put on 6(!), yes 6 freakin' pounds since my last appointment on April 6th. Now I know there is a big difference in the old school doctor scales vs. newer digital ones, but sheesh.

This puts my weight gain total up to almost 30 lbs. in 20 weeks. I don't understand why either, i'm eating healthier than ever! I follow my body and its cues. I don't eat when not hungry and I try to keep the snacking to a minimum. I know some of it is from drinking sugar again (I went off sugar for 8 months while on Weight Watchers), but I cannot possibly blame sugar on all of it.

My OB is going to fuss me out again when I see her next month. The midwife I had been seeing told me from the beginning to not gain more than 10 lbs tops the whole time, which I think is a very unrealistic goal for ANYONE. Anyway, the OB has "advised" me to keep the weight gain to a minimum (under 35 lbs for the duration) to increase my chances for a successful vbac, is there any truth to that?

I'm sorry to whine and complain, but this is really bothering me. I worked so damn hard to get this weight off so I would be at a healthy weight at time of conception and i've done nothing but gain it ALL back in half the time it took me to lose it.

Thanks for listening/reading.

don't worry mama. everyone gains differently and at different times. some gain faster in the beginning and taper off in the end. it'll be ok. are you uncomfortable with yourself? if so, maybe treating yourself to something nice will make you feel better. you don't have to go wild, maybe just some new comfy preggy pants or even a pedicure. remember, we are in this to be mamas, not fashion models. this is a tough time to feel insecure about weight, but it is inevitable. as for the doc, don't anticipate the worse. what will be will be.

your pics look beautiful. big bellys are in and just think, we have excuses. sending some mama love your way.

Yeah but you are gaining it all back with good reason. In a few months you can really work you butt off again to lose it and if b/f that will help!

I was weighed this week and I have gained a total of 7lbs so far. Doesnt sound like much but per my very first appt they told me to gain no more than 5lbs total. I am plus size. With my other pregnancies I lost weight in the beginning and only gained a little bit for the entire pregnancies. I think I gained 7lbs so far b/c I dont like being told what to do.

Good job growing that baby!

You look great! Try not to worry about it. . .I know what you mean though, I already worry, but really we are growing babies here. That's what important. If you are eating healthy and feel healthy than who's to say you should follow any "rules" about how much to gain!

Unless you weighed yourself when you got your BFP, don't compare what you weigh now to what you weighed then (on a different scale). It's really important to use the same scale throughout for those comparisons.

And I'd be looking for a new doctor and midwife - gaining 10 pounds through pregnancy is NOT realistic, nor is it healthy or safe. There have been plenty of studies done on that. 30 pounds during the pregnancy is usually a fairly realistic number, but weight gain should not effect your ability to VBAC. And unless you were quite heavy to begin with, gaining more than 30 may just be what your body needs right now.

I would lay off the sugar though, if your doctor sends you for a BS test you don't want that messing with it.

Thank you all so much

I really know that I shouldn't be stressing so much about the weight gain, but it is something I have always been very self conscience about my whole life. I know that in the end all that *really* matters is a healthy baby, and that is my goal. I just wish this gaining would slow down a bit! With my daughter I gained somewhere between 60-70 lbs, but ate like crap and ate a ton of unhealthy stuff. I guess the weight gain just took me by surprise since I have much better eating habits now and make better choices. Food has always been an issue for me, so I have to make myself eat sometimes.

I have seriously thought about finding a new practice all together, but they are the main practice that work in the hospital i'm going to be at. I could switch hospitals, but this particular one has the lowest c/section rate and highest VBAC rate within reasonable driving distance from where i'm at, which is already 45 minutes away

You look beautiful. You don't look at all overweight or obese in your pictures, I don't understand why the doctor recommended such tiny weight gain in the first place (and I disagree with limiting weight gain during pregnancy anyway). Don't worry about your doctor, you know that you're eating healthy and maybe your body just needs to add some weight to produce a healthy baby.

It's true. I didn't gain any significant weight at all (maybe a pound) until last week, much to the horror of my mother and sister. My mother gained evenly throughout all five of her pregnancies, and my sister gained 20lbs in her first trimester this time around.

Then last week I put on 5lbs in a WEEK. Surprise! My eating habits (generally very healthy now that I can keep food down again!) didn't change at all, I didn't eat more, I didn't skip exercising... but my body said it was time for five pounds, whoosh. So I understand your frustration and apprehension (maybe "mild terror"-- I can't imagine how huge I will be if I continue to gain at this bizarre pace) with the whole thing.
