I had some bloodwork done and was told to scedule my ultrasound as soon as possible. I called to scedule the ultrasound..the date I was offered was the 16th. I ask if theres anything sooner and I was told to get it as soon as possible. nope, thats the soonest, and yes she sees that in my chart that I need it done soon..uhh okay...well 16th is no good unless after 4..only one "spot" on the 16th and its for 130..
I have out of town company company and need to pick them up at the airaport. It will cost 50 dollars for a taxi if I dont pick them up so I ask for a diff apointment..she says the 31st...uhh...huh?? Okay fine... I scedule that date and call my dr to find out the reason I need it so soon. Was it because of the additional gentitic testing they mentioned if I chose to do it? I don't plan to have that done.. cant even talk to my dr, I get put through the advice like..to talk to a advice nurse. I ask what the reason was for the rush on getting one done. She just cant really tell me. Only that its because Im not sure of the last day of my period.. (It was april or may..) so I ask if there is a health reason ect she cant answer me!

WTF?? So she tells me to keep calling the radiology to see if a sooner apointment opens up...??????

What the heck! I don't feel worried since I had the blood work done and I know ultra sounds sometimes arnt even that safe. But I just feel annoyed at the way they are jerking me around.

they may want it soon to get a more accurate due date because you are unsure of the date of your last period. i think i read somewhere (maybe even here) that a sono for due dates is more accurate earlier than if you had it later on. i guess there isnt much difference in fetal growth at a month or 2 gestation but after that babies of the same age can vary in size and weight.
my mw had me go for a sono after my 1st appt with her this pregnancy. she thought i was closer to 10 weeks, but my dates said i was 8 1/2.
the dr's notes probably just say something about due dates and that's what the nurse was going by. my guess is that you are fine and shouldn't worry.

Yeah, sounds like they want you to get a dating u/s, and yes, that's more accurate earlier on. Most doctors do it sometime between 6-10 weeks. Mine tries to get it at 8 weeks.

Getting a nurse instead of a doctor on the phone is pretty normal, but not being able to schedule an u/s any sooner than a month from now? Wow. I've always had multiple choices of u/s times and had no problem making one whenever it's needed, but then again, my doctor has the u/s machine in his own office, as most of the OBs in my area do.

A dating ultrasound needs to be done before about 10 weeks to be the most accurate and since you are unsure of your LMP, the doc wants it ASAP. But if you're looking at April or May for an LMP, then you're already pretty far along, so the early ultrasound doesn't make a ton of sense. But the earlier you have it, the more accurate it will be.

And appointments at dedicated ultrasound places do fill very quickly in my experience. Having to call back repeatedly for a cancellation is not unusual. BUT these places always have reserve/emergency slots available. Often these spaces are only available for doctor's offices when they call directly to make an appointment for a patient with an urgent situation.

I'm also curious what blood work you had done? If its the triple or quad screen, then that needs to be done around 15-17 weeks to be accurate. If its just the standard prenatal blood work (blood typing, rubella titer, STD screening), then that tells you very little about the pregnancy itself.
