Anyone have their baby's stump still attached at 4 weeks? This is my third child and neither of my other children had this problem. The cord was treated with the dye at the hospital, and I have been keeping it dry, and cleaning with alcohol thoroughly 6 times a day. There is no foul smell, so I don't think it's infected. It doesn't look like it's going to detach any time soon. So I am thinking the worst---immune disorder or something. I would love to hear from those of you that experienced this with one of their babies, and what course of action was taken, if any.

hmmm, i haven't heard of this...but i was going to suggest something like goldenseal powder instead of alcohol...keeps it clean and helps keep it dry too.

My midwife said the more alcohol you put on it the longer it lasts. My DD's was gone by day 6. I applied no alcohol. HTH

my last 2 babies stumps lasted until 7 weeks. I was not concerned. Neither was the ped. I didn't apply alcohol but maybe once a day after bath.

Yep. With two of my kids I used alcohol and goldenseal (DD#2 only) and they didn't heal for at least three weeks. With my youngest (UC) I used nothing and the stump was gone in two days.

So my advice would be to try nothing and see how that goes.

You aren't supposed to use alcohol because it kills the good bacteria along with the bad. I've never heard of putting dye on it.

Ditto. I used alcohol on my oldest ds's and it took a couple of weeks. My youngest ds's was gone in 4 days and I didn't use any alcohol.
