how long did it take for your LO's to fall off? Riley is 6do now and it's nowhere near falling off. i can't for the life of me remember how long it took for Rowan's and Ava's to fall off. i haven't put anything on it, i'm just leaving it alone but i thought it would be closer to falling off by now.

One of my dogs ate dd's when it fell off. Wicked gross

I'm trying to think how long it took for the kids' to fall off..... I want to say more than 2wks but less than 3 for dd. I'm pretty sure the twins fell off before they came home. But I'm not sure A came home 1st and his might have fallen off at home. I remember ds1 took what felt like forever but I did the alchol of his and I think it eventually came off due to friction
I do remember that he bled something terrible when it came off

DS's fell off at 10 days. We did do alcohol wipes once a day after the skin around his stump became inflamed and there was a definite not-healthy odor...the inflammation and odor went away almost immediately and the stump fell off a few days later.

melissa - what were you putting on it?
I put alcohol on it (that's what I was told to do, I never researched otherwise). It fell off incompletely and she ended up needing the rest ?? I don;t remember what the dr did. But put something on the small piece that didn't come off all the way. That part took a little longer to come off.

Both my kids cord fell off on day 10. I used alcohol the first day or two, and then nothing. I never noticed any foul smell or redness.

This time I won't put anything on it, except my midwife applies goldenseal powder right after birth...

Ray's fell off on day 10. I was finding I was having a hard time keeping it dry with the CD because he is so little. So once a day he would wear a disposable and bask in the sun. I didn't clean it off with anything because no one told us too. It was looking a little gooey on day 9 and when I went to clean it on day 10, it came off.

And I think the story about the cat eating the cord is
: But I am a crazy animal person

Emaline's took 10 days and Benny's took 15 days. The nurses said boys tend to take longer because they soak their diapers in the front and the cord stays wet for longer. They didn't clean it with anything. Just let it dry.

:puke

Eden's fell off on day 5, but she kicked her legs so much that no matter what dipe we put on her ( and with many hours of naked time) she kicked it off. The dr said it wasn't infected, but definitely 'colonized' and we had to put polysporin on it. I hated to do that, but it's totally cleared up and I was afraid she'd need something stronger if we waited and it got truly infected. She smelled like a garbage dump when it was attached. I can't say I'm sorry to see it go. I'm not sure what the deal was with the stink, but we never wet it.

Don't put anything on it. The less you do to it the sooner it will fall off.
that's very true. When I had the twins, they were in the NICU and the nurses were surprised that peds still tell parents to put alcohol on the stump. They didn't have anything put on their stumps and theirs fell off the soonest. I asked dh and said that both of theirs were off before A came home, so by 11 days old

Also without the alcohol their cords didn't smell like the other kids

I didn't put anything on the stump- DD1 feel off on day four, DD2 on day six.

DD2's cord was getting kind of wet and smelly because the diaper covers were rubbing, so we switched to sposies for 24 hours to keep them off it and let it dry out and fall off.

DS's just fell off today (Day 10). We didn't put anything on it (which is what we were told both this time and at my last birth), but I'm wondering if I should wipe it with alcohol now, as there's still a bit of pus/fluid etc coming out...
DD's fell off around day 10 or 11, I think.
