OK - I'm still kinda new to knitting, but I've been doing it non-stop lately. My forefinger on my left hand has the skin worn off. LOL! It's not bleeding or anything, but sort of raw and wrinkly. It's so strange.

I've been working with the fisherman wool from Jo-Ann.

Has anyone else ever had "knitting finger?" Am I going to end up with a calloused fingertip? Any ideas? It feels strange to touch things with it.... LOL!

I have not had that happen to me (although I did get a crampy forefinger at first). Do you push the yarn up the needles with your finger? Watch yourself knit and look to see if you are causing unusual friction on that spot, perhaps you may have to change things up a little. Or you could try one of those rubber thimble thingys desk job people use to protect their fingers.

I almost wonder if you are wrapping the yarn too tight around your finger?
I had a bum wrist from too much knitting at christmas... but knitting finger? I can't lose my knitting fingers!

so, I'm the only one. It's the left finger and I hold the yarn with my right, so I'm not wrapping it around this finger. I do use this finger to push the yarn up and down the needles. I think that is the issue. It's the first time I've used this kind of yarn & I think it's just scratchy wool. I'll just let up with the pushing around the yarn.

It's too funny!

I *should* look for one of those rubber finger tip thingys.

LOL!

No! You aren't the only one! When I first started knitting, I got the same thing. I think it has to do with being new and trying to make stitches really tight and even. As you get more comfortable I think you will relax and not put quite the death-grip on your needles.

I've got a similar problem, but it's my right index finger. I use it to push the left needle down to slip the stitches off after they are knit and my finger is hurting from pushing the tip of the needle. I figured after awhile I'll just build up a callous. :LOL

I have sort of calloused the tip of my left index finger with all my knitting. I use it to push the tip of the left needle and hold the stitches on the needle when I am slipping a stitch. It sounds like everyone has different techniques.

I had this problem, I now have tougher skin, it isnt ugly like a callous an be, just a bit rougher. But when I first got it, it felt so weird!
