... has anyone else read this book? I am eating it up right now- and wishing there was a place to talk about some of these amazing ideas. It all feels so right, but also like such a challenge, given the way most of us were raised. It's a lot easier to read about these concepts, another whole ballpark to consistenly put them into practice.

Any thoughts?
What worked for you in terms of moving from theory to practice?
How do you stay reminded of the principles?

TIA

i just came into this information this year. Ive always done most of it out of instinct because I was so desperate to do things differently than my out of control mother and abusive father.

there is alot about this on the GD board if you want to checkit out. lots of great info. The ahrdest thing for me is the praise issue. I am working on taking the "good job" out of my vocabulary

http://www.alfiekohn.org/parenting/gj.htm

we dont elliminate all praise just the empty praise. I try to thank the kids more than praise them if that makes any sense

I read this book sometime ago and loved it as well. Yes, it is a challenge to apply, but worth it.

The person that recommended the Kohn book on some message list I was on at the time has his own consulting practice and has an AWESOME email subscription (free) that I highly recommend...here is his site...
http://www.enjoyparenting.com/

Alfie Kohn is great. I also highly recommend his other books, particularly The Case Against Competition.
