Circumcision: Did you know?
by Daniel Cullen
April 05, 2006

The debate about neonatal nonreligious circumcision is over. According to the
American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), neonatal circumcision is the result of
ignorance, bad medical practice and American social and cultural pressure.
Regarding the three most commonly cited justifications for neonatal
circumcision (penile cancer, venereal disease and penile hygiene), the AAP
now states that the benefits are negligible, which means that the majority of
American men are walking around without foreskins for no good reason. Yet,
the barbaric practice shows no sign of abating, and for this reason I plan to
shed some light on the cultural dark spot of circumcision.

awesome write up. copied and saved.
Good stuff...but...sources for the AAP comments? Last I heard, the AAP said that they don't recommend RIC but they hadn't actually said that "neonatal circumcision is the result of ignorance, bad medical practice and American social and cultural pressure."

I wish they would, but it seems doubtful that they would have the cojones.
I wouldn't take those first sentences as quotes of the AAP. I think, if it's not in quotation marks, he is making his own translation of what the AAP statements amounts to. Does that make sense? You'll note that later in the article he does use quotation marks around the stuff they actually say.
