Some of you have experienced the kind of disrespect and undermining from family that I have, as well. Knowing that there are people out there who support and understand our decision will be awesome! I have a great community IRL, but I think all of us can appreciate the need/want for some online support, too! My mantra this week - ignore and avoid!!

Yep, my MIL told me "you're the reason our schools are failing", great thanks, I really needed that vote of support!!

So, yes, the online support is priceless

Did you thank her for her belief that you alone hold such an amazing amount of power? Who knows where you will turn your superpowers next! The health care system? Wall Street? Today the schools and tomorrow the world! Bwahahaha!!

I was lucky enough to have our school system's superintendent move next door to my parents. Shortly after we started homeschooling, I got calls from the administration saying the superintendent had instructed them to call me and share all the wonderful resources the school had to offer my daughter that we were missing out on.

Luckily for us, doing something along the homeschooling/unschooling spectrum was working well. I actually found the phone calls fairly amusing and started having real fun with the poor lady who was instructed to call me.

Now the holidays are here and I get to avoid the whole subject with the niece who teaches and her mother. And of course, my sis-in-law the prosecuting attorney, who loves to share stories of the negligent homeschoolers she's dealt with. And of course, the traditional statement she makes to her kids - guess what, maybe next year we'll make you two stay home and we'll homeschool you! Followed by shouts of horror at the very idea. Thankfully, my daughter just thinks they're nuts and it doesn't phase her a bit. I mean if they can't see how great it is to homeschool, that's just their loss.

Wow. After those two stories, I feel lucky... the worst I've heard so far is 'I'm worried about his socialization' and 'when you decide to send him back to school...'
