I saw this on the June DDC and thought it was kind of fun!

What are some names that you would love to use, but are a bit too unusual (or maybe your partner thinks they are), or names that just wouldn't "fit".

(We are NOT saying that any of these are bad names! Just names we love but can't/won't use for whatever reason.)

I LOVE the Hebrew girl's name Tova.

Dh thinks it's too strange, and since we're not Jewish and don't have many Jewish friends, he's worried everyone would think it's a weird name.

Also, we have a son named Toby, so the names might be too "close" sounding. (Interestingly, Toby/Tobias is also a Hebrew name, but it's definitely more common.)

I still love it, though.

Penelope, Calliope, and Zephyr were all on my girl list but rejected by DH for being "too weird".

I didn't really have any odd names for boys, the "weirdest" one is the one we picked!

Let's see. . .I love lots of strange or just strange to my DH names.
Odette (after the ballet Swan Lake),
Scarlett
Clementine (love this name but DH won't hear of it. . .I think Octobermoon has this at the top of her list though, yah! glad someone might use it!)
Sappho (it would be hard to be named after the first famous lesbian!)
Giselle (also after a ballet--yes, I was a bun-head--used to be very uncommon until the super model)

That's all I can think of right now. As you can see I am a wee bit obsessed with girl names. For boys I am more traditional I guess and none of the names I like are "strange". But I also haven't been thinking of boy names much.

Clementine is such a cute name! When I worked with autistic kids in high school there was a little girl named Clementine and I always think of her when I hear the name. She was SO sweet and loved carrots!

Anywho...back to the topic of this thread!

My DH and I are actually searching for Hebrew names that would also work in English (but unusual is still fine with us). . .I like Tova actually. Its one we haven't discussed yet. He is Jewish and we have decided to only use Hebrew names, but I also want them to be somewhat pronounceable/spellable in English. I might have to mention this one!
Although there are more than enough for us to choose from assuming we don't go overboard and have more than four kids.

Calla is a name that I really wanted to use, callalillies are my favorite flowers, and the flower I had at my wedding. LOVE them, so I thought it would be very appropriate to use that name. But our last name is Block, a noun, so it feels weird to have a noun first name (Calla Block?). I tried to incorporate it as a middle name, but I haven't found a way to make it work yet.

But...LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!

I'm about to admit to the nerdy/geeky side of me here...
I heard the name Ronin on an episode of Star Trek The Next Generation (I own the DVDs of all 7 seasons!!!) and really liked it! I looked it up...spelled Ronan it's Irish (goes great with Ian and Connor!) and means "little seal". Spelled Ronin it's Japanese and meanse "Samurai without a master".

My husband nixed it, saying it sounded too "out there", and also was concerned it was too similar to Ian (Ian...Ronan...maybe). And our agreement is that he names boys and I hold veto power, I name girls and he holds veto power. So darn it...no Ronan/Ronin here

We haven't discussed middle names yet but I think I might just use it if this baby turns out to be a girl, and have a little Eowyn Callalilly. A very unusual name but so cute!

I like this name, and more importantly, I just had to give you a huge
for your excellent taste in TV! I have every episode memorized and have been trying to convince my husband we should name our son either Jaden (Data's name when he loses his memory on the planet he's observing) or Tiberius.

Ok, sorry for that nerdy interjection. I just love when I find fellow star trek fans!

I love Clementine and am still pushing hard for it if this little one turns out to be a girl. DH still hates it and everyone else in my family, too, but I don't care. I like Magnolia, too!

We tried to come up with a name that meant Bear, even so I wanted to just name the boy Bear.

We also considered Yesterday or Tomorrow.

Yesterday was for the Beatles song. . .

We found other Beatles induced names however...
Boy - Jude Winston (Winston was John Lennon's middle name)
Girl - Clarabella Starr (Clarabella is a song the Beatles recorded but wasn't released until 94)
