Well she is bottlefeeding formula now.
I feel that she wanted to bf badly but did not get a lot of support. She had big nipples, a small baby. He ended up getting dehydrated and jaudiced and his billi levels were to the point where they were going to take him back to the hospital in 12 hours if he didn't get hydrated. They gave him bottles and he loved them. SIL decided to at least pump for him but was only getting 7 oz per day with her Isis manual pump. I told her if she wants to pump she needs to do it every 3 hours, 15 mins on each side and get a better pump. MIL said the hand pump was fine, but thanks. Well no surprise she lost her milk shortly after. She never got engorged. There is a strong family history of milk supply problems even when there are not bottles (this goes back generations- they had to use wet nurses and cow milk). She is happy that he's feeding and not too sorry about losing her milk. Thanks for all your advice during the crisis. It's over now. Sigh.

thanks for the update, darshani... you sound disappointed and it sounds like your SIL is disappointed and relieved all at the same time.
to you for caring so much about her and her new baby.

are you or you & your family going to be able to visit her anytime this year?

I'm sorry. But I'm soooo glad that you went the extra mile to try and get all the help available for your SIL. I hope she enjoys her sweet new babe!

We are just thankful that he's here safe and healthy after such a long wait. Gotta focus on the good stuff. He got milk for at least a week and I'm sure he will benefit from that. Oh, and she's using the cloth dipes I sent *years* ago! He's not circed, he's being held a lot and she will get out the sling when he gets a bit bigger. So he's going to have a good life and lots of love.

We are going to see them over the winter holiday.
I have already bought a ton of clothes for him in summer clearance stock b/c it's so hot there year round. He's going to be the best dressed little boy in India.

She had a rough birth thanks to the system over there.
But it was at least vaginal! I give her a lot of credit for that!! She got to the pushing stage and both her dh and mother were asked to leave the room. Her mother refused and was escorted out! Then they refused to put the back of the bed up for her. She was told to hold her own thighs and push really hard. On the fourth push the nurse pushed down on the top of her belly. That is sooo . . . I have no words. The baby was vaccum extracted out during that last push as well. She tore very badly as a result and then baby was taken to the nursery after just a brief glimpse. I was trying so hard to convince her to give birth at my house but they had faith in the doctors. Now she's very angry that she trusted them. Maybe next time we'll have her over here for the birth. Hearing her story, it's no wonder woman there elect to have csections.
