I took Boris in this morning and they did a full workup; chest x-rays, blood, and they tried to do a urine culture, but he didn't have anything in his bladder all day. He's always had a slightly enlarged liver and high normal results on some bloodwork so they were concerned and ran off a list of things including cancer, Cushing's Disease, allergies, etc...

They just called and his x-rays show that his heart is very enlarged. They're going to put him on meds to make him "comfortable". There is a vet cardiologist I could take him to, but I don't know how much I want to put him through. He's 13 years old and so far doesn't seem to be in any pain.

This isn't at all what I wanted to hear. I've had this dog since I was 10, he means the world to me and just thinking about losing him is so hard. Today's also my baby's due date and for once I'm thankful she's not here yet.

Thanks for the thoughts.

The vet really encouraged us to see the cardiologist to make sure he's on the right meds/doses. We're going on the 7th. He's on Lasix and Encard right now, small doses of each because she doesn't want to do anything risky. She also has him on an antibiotic just to make sure there's nothing else going on. He's got to go back for a kidney check next week also. This is just insanity. I feel horrible for waiting to take him in. He hasn't coughed once since he's been home though, so maybe the meds are helping him feel more comfortable. We're still waiting on bloodwork and they still really want to test him for Cushing's.

Of course now it's looking like my baby's first outing (assuming she ever decides to be born) will be to the dog's vet appointments!
