He is an 11 yr old neutered male Staffordshire Bull Terrier. She noticed what she called a lump on his tummy yesterday. I saw him today and he has an orange size mass on his right abdomen near his penis. It is very hard but not at all painful. The skin is red looking and feels hot to the touch.
She mauls the dog daily and knows that it was not there on Friday. She called the vet and was told to give him some aspirin. She just called me to say that the swelling has now gone down near his scrotum. I told her to take him in to get checked now, not tomorrow. She just called me again to say that they will see him tonight if she wants and if not to bring him tomorrow. The vet, Amy, is a friend of ours and would see him but I think my sis is dragging her heels for fear that it will be the worst news imaginable. I worked for a vet for many years but I'm stumped. Anyone have any idea?? TIA.

She just called me and said that she took him in. Amy put a needle in it and withdrew a bloody, pussy liquid. She thinks it may have been a mass that got infected or possibly something going on with a lymph node. Anyway, he is on an antibiotic and some pain meds. Thank goodness!!! He is such a nice boy.... his name is Miguel and we all call him Big Al. I am so happy that he is going to be ok.

Take him in! Postponing the inevitable doesn't make it any less inevitable.

And it could just be something that needs antibiotics, in which case, the sooner the better.
