Urine~Vinegar~Carpet question

627 Views 9 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  momof3sweeties
Ds peed on the carpet and it stank! I poured a solution of vinegar water (half and half) over it and blotted the heck out of it! Now, it smells like vinegar pee. I thought the vinegar was supposed to get rid of the urine smell.

What should I do now?

I think it may be because urine and vinegar are both acidic... so the vinegar doesn't counteract urine.

I've had the same problem at my house... ick! Finally had success after MANY scrubbings with my carpet steamer. But next time I'm going to buy the stuff from the pet store for pet "accidents". I've heard it works well.

I feel your pain, mama!
I am getting my carpets professionally cleaned on Tuesday morning because of the stinky pee smelling spot right next to my bed. IMO this is the ONLY way to get rid of the stinky pee smell forever, because the professionals' cleaners deposit the solution and are powerful enought to suck it ALL back out of the carpet.

Good luck, that smell is gaggy!
My solution for anything stinky in carpet is baking soda. Sprinkle some on the spot and leave it sit overnight. In the morning, vacuum it up. Works everytime...for me anyway

We had an elderly beagle who regularly peed on our carpet. I would blot up as much as I could by putting an old towel over the stain and stepping on it. Then I would pour water with a bit of amonia in it over the stain and scrub it with a stiff brush. Then I would blot that up and pour clear water over it, blot and then water and blot again. That seemed to prevent a smell.
Thanks for the ideas. I'll try baking soda and if that doesn't work, it's time for a professional carpet cleaning.

Be careful with this though. Ammonia smells like urine (urine has a lot of ammonia in it) and it can encourage a dog to keep peeing in that spot if you don't get all of the ammonia out.
how do you get the stain out? we have white carpeting-that our dog pees on- way too much.... i steam clean it and steam clean it- to no avail- the stains reappear in a few days.
Thanks
Emilie
I have found hydrogen peroxide to remove urine, blood, vomit and stool from the carpet. Test your carpet for color fastness first.

Yikes! That could cause damage! Professional clean it...the pee is down in the pad and the smell will stay till it is really cleaned!

Go here to find a good cleaner in your area.
