"The Associated Press is to complain to the US military after journalists said US soldiers deleted footage of the aftermath of an attack in Afghanistan.
President Hamid Karzai said 10 people died when coalition forces opened fire on civilians after a suicide attack in eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday.

Journalists working for AP said US troops erased images of a vehicle in which three people had been shot dead."

More jawdropping stupidity.....

NATO airstrike hits Afghan house

"A U.S.-led coalition airstrike destroyed a mud-brick home, killing nine people from four generations of an Afghan family during a clash between Western troops and militants, Afghan officials and relatives said Monday.

"The U.S. military said two men with automatic rifles were seen heading into a compound of five homes after a rocket attack on a U.S. base in the area.

"Militants fired late Sunday on the U.S. base in Kapisa province, just north of Kabul, and when fighter aircraft returned fire they hit a civilian home, killing five adults and four children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years, said Gulam Nabi, a relative of the victims. An AP reporter at the scene said a large mud home in a compound of five buildings was destroyed, leaving only bits of mud.

"A U.S. military statement said coalition forces "dropped two 2,000-pound bombs" on the compound after a rocket was fired at the base and armed militants were seen moving into the compound. The U.S. base in Kapisa is about 50 miles northeast of Kabul, the capital."

Not one, but two thousand pound bombs.

Jesus, not to downplay the killing of innocence and the over-the-top bullying of Marines in the first OP, this stuff couldn't be happening at a worse time, with the Taliban forces much-predicted 'Spring offensive' looming.

Way to push away the much-needed 'hearts and minds'.

Karzai slams Afghan deaths after raid on U.S. force

"Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Monday condemned the deaths of 10 civilians shot by U.S. troops after an attack on their convoy over the weekend in the eastern city of Jalalabad.

"Karzai strongly condemned the incident that took place," the palace said in a statement.

"Karzai has ordered an inquiry, but previous such investigations by NATO and the Afghan government have done nothing more than confirm witness accounts that those killed were civilians."

Marines under investigation for firing on civilians

"A group of Marines accused of shooting and killing civilians after a suicide bombing in Afghanistan is under U.S. investigation and has been ordered to leave the country early, officials said Friday.

"Army Maj. Gen. Francis H. Military to Investigate Use of Force by Marines

"The U.S. military announced today that it has opened a criminal investigation into whether an elite Marine special operations platoon used excessive force in reacting to a suicide bombing in Afghanistan last month, an incident that left at least eight Afghan civilians dead.

"Army Maj. Gen. Francis H. Kearney III, who commands U.S. Special Operations Forces in the Middle East and Central Asia, determined after an initial review of the March 4 incident that "the escalation of force might have been too high" and warranted an inquiry by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, said Lt. Col. Lou Leto, a spokesman for Kearney's command."
