What is it that you fear?

I would like to discuss the attitude of "Us or Them". Kill them befor they kill us is an old motivation from historical past to drive a countrie's people into war. It gains its momentum from fear. This fear does not have to be created in people. It usually already exists. It is only accentuated, hyped up or just encouraged.

Where does your fear come from?

A quote from Marjane Satrapi, author of Persepolis, a story of her growing up in Iran ...
"When we're afraid we lose all sense of analysis and reflection. Our fear paralyzes us. Besides, fear has always been the driving force behind all dictator's repression."

What I fear the most is the current situation in the world and the possible results. This fear comes directly from the government of this country and its supportive power structure. What are their goals and agendas? This no one can know as they are personal things and not written in any memo or policy or legislative record. Humans run things here and humans can be dubious creatures. They have secrets. I fear my own country, its government and all the people who make the real descisions. I think, those are good things to be afraid of.

I do not support the belief it is OK to kill others in another part of the world so people here won't get killed. I do not believe that killing others in another part of the world is going to prevent people from being killed here. I believe that the war in Iraq is a giant blood sacrifice. To what diety I do not know, but whomever they are, they are certainly going to get gorged. Every ten years or so, this country offers up a sacrifice. This is the largest in 40 years.

Us or Them ... Them or Us. Who is favored by God? Whom is it OK to kill in God's eyes? Which of the Creators children are to die? Does the Great Spirit have favorite children? Do the Ten Thousand Things care? Does the Most Infinite want to help you and not them? Does Allah want death? What would the Sage say? Gaia shrugs her shoulders and floods the whole place to start over. I just realised that I fear the planet's response less than I fear my own government. Bring on the earthquakes and tornadoes! Floods! Huricanes! They are preferable. Somehow, even comforting.

bumpity-bump-bump.

RachelGS, Joyce in the mts., I couldn't agree more. Calm, hang in there.

Here is an insight on this topic. My DP and I were talking about some of the responses on other threads. We realised that the only time it makes sense to respond in the fashion of 'Them or me', is when you are pressed upon by an outside entity, such as in prison or in a concentration camp. Survival brings this kind of response into the sphere of normal behavior. But, the person perpetrating it cannot be held accountable because they are placed into an unreal situation where they must make unethical survival decisions every day. Example - you cannot judge a death camp survivor for stealing food or a blanket from another prisoner. But, in a country like this one, where people have refrigerators full of food, SUVs, stuff-o-plenty, and still some semblance of freedom of expresion (although it is disapearing fast) the attitude of, us or them, is not conscionable. We as a nation have many, many alternatives to the course we as a nation have taken.
